Two years ago, I accepted what was meant to be a three-month consulting assignment with FirstCred Limited (under Judicial Management).

What began as a sales and marketing assessment grew into a much broader CxO role. During my time with FirstCred, I was entrusted with building much of the company's current sales and marketing infrastructure, developing operational systems and processes, creating training programmes, expanding the agent network, and supporting organisational change across multiple departments.

I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished together. There is a great deal that was built during these two years, and none of it would have been possible without the commitment, collaboration, and resilience of the people involved.

As my contract comes to a close, I want to thank everyone who was part of that work and wish the new owners, leadership team, employees, agents, and customers every success as FirstCred begins its next chapter.

As for me, I look forward to continuing the work I enjoy most: helping organisations and leaders navigate growth, change, and new opportunities.

I am also excited to be returning time and attention to several projects of my own, including the upcoming release of my book, The Enneagram in Real Life: Everyday Tools for Understanding Yourself and Others.

Here's to new beginnings, meaningful work, and the next chapter.

Why do some people avoid difficult conversations while others address them immediately?

Why do some leaders overthink every decision while others move quickly and confidently?

Why do certain team dynamics feel effortless, while others create tension, frustration, and misunderstanding?

The Enneagram helps uncover the deeper patterns behind the way we communicate, respond to stress, make decisions, lead teams, and build relationships in both business and life.

Do not miss out on this workshop I am doing in partnership with Business Gems, we believe strong businesses are built by people who understand themselves and others well. Self-awareness, emotional intelligence, communication, and healthy leadership are not “soft skills.” They directly impact how we lead, connect, sell, manage conflict, and grow.

The Enneagram is a practical framework used around the world by professionals, leaders, and businesses to better understand human behaviour and improve communication and connection.

If you are looking to grow personally and professionally, we would love to have you join us for this upcoming workshop.

“With all due respect, you do not have children.” “You are single, you do not have an excuse.” “You do not have kids, you do not understand.” And in one conversation that has stayed with me for over 20 years, “You do not have a family to support, you do not need to make as much as he does,” though I held equal position and responsibility.

These comments, whether direct or implied, all point to the same assumption that responsibility only counts if it looks a certain way.

What is often missed is what it takes to carry a full life while operating at a strategic level in business. Yes, I have a partner, but a significant portion of responsibility still sits with me. I work with companies navigating pressure, constraints, and decisions that impact cash flow, performance, people, and direction. That requires clarity, discipline, and the ability to make decisions and move things forward.

Life does not pause alongside that. If I do not move, things do not move. The bills wait, the admin stacks up, the business stalls, and the practical realities of running a home and a company sit in the same space. There is no separation, and the same thinking required to manage that is exactly what I bring into the companies I work with.

This is not a comparison. Parenting and marriage carry weight, and so does building and sustaining a business and making decisions that affect outcomes every day. My expertise is built through years of solving problems and delivering results where things cannot be left undone.

If you are at a point where your next direction is unclear, or something in your business is not working the way it should, let's have a conversation and see how I might be able to help.

Stop paying for "strategies" that look great in a boardroom but fail on the ground.

I recently met with a potential client who wanted to discuss team development. But before we could even get started, they wanted to know: "What exactly is your 'methodology' for implementation?"

While that may sound like a standard technical question, the frustration behind it was clear. They weren’t looking for a theory; they were looking for a way out of a mess.

They had just spent upwards of 6-figures on a "high-level strategist" who delivered a flashy PDF report that looked world-class, but gave them no direction for practical implimentation. They were out a massive amount of capital and no closer to their goals.

Here is my unpopular opinion:
If a strategist walks into your office and charges you six figures, they had better leave you with solid, practical ways to implement every single thing they suggest.

I see this happen way too often across the continent. A "guru" arrives with a flashy "proprietary system" designed for a completely different economy. They make grand promises and try to force an African company into a global template, with no consideration for our unique market dynamics, the specific local culture, or the actual capacity of the team.

I don’t play those games.

If I am hired to solve a problem, it gets solved. If I am hired to move a company in a new direction, we don't just draw the map—we build the road.

To answer their question: my "methodology" is to craft strategy around relevant local context. I take into account the unique nuances of our markets, the reality of the target audience, and the specific culture of the people you are trying to reach.

You can’t force a "global" square peg into a local round hole. You have to build the solution for the ground you’re actually standing on.

Over the past few months, I’ve been in a number of conversations with executives and leadership teams who are rethinking structure, direction, and next steps. I’ve noticed these conversations often begin mid-Q1, once the “New Year” push settles and it becomes clear what is actually working and what isn’t.

It’s not often that space opens in my calendar, but I have capacity over the next couple of months and will be taking on two to three additional engagements.

Current availability includes:

• Executive VIP strategy intensives
• Coaching or consulting engagements for executives or leadership teams
• Fractional CxO work beginning March 1

If you would like to explore working together, contact me directly and we’ll determine next steps.

I’ve been thinking about how often clarity doesn’t arrive through urgency, but through slowing down enough to notice what no longer fits.

Most leaders I’ve worked with already know this. They just don’t often give themselves the space to listen. They are so busy getting to the next thing instead of pausing long enough to ask whether the next thing is actually the right one.

When was the last time you gave yourself time to breathe?

When obstacles arise, you change your direction to reach your goal; you do not change your decision to get there. — Zig Ziglar

In March 2020 I “accidentally” moved to Gaborone, Botswana. I left Dallas with a backpack and a carry-on, planning a one-week holiday in Spain… and within hours the world shut down. Flights vanished, borders closed, and I made a quick decision to be near family “for a few months.” In the same week, I lost 90% of my clients.

Five years later, I’m still here.

What was meant to be temporary became the opening I didn’t know I needed — a chance to rebuild my work in the direction I’d wanted for years: helping teams untangle people problems, creating practical strategies for sustainable change, and helping executives think more clearly about who they are and what comes next. Today I split my time between Gaborone, South Africa, and Dallas, and genuinely love the life that unfolded when everything paused.

Here’s what I’ve learned: circumstances may change, but the internal decision, the deeper sense of who you’re becoming, is what carries you when your old goals no longer fit. Many of the executives and companies I work with find themselves in that in-between space: experienced, capable, successful… yet sensing that something needs to shift.

I know that season well because I’ve lived it. Sometimes your next chapter begins the moment life interrupts your old one.

If you’re navigating a period of transition and want a trusted thought partner, I have a few openings for executive clients — let’s chat.

I have had the privilege of working alongside some of the top people in their industry – from medical doctors to C-suite executives. What I have found to be true about those who can walk in and command a room without even trying is that it isn’t about their talent; it is about their presence.

They make sure everyone is noticed and accounted for, from the cleaner to colleagues on their same level. They are engaged in where they are. Not half listening. Not mentally in the next meeting. They are present.

They notice what is really happening… the energy shift, the disagreement no one names, the thing unsaid that’s steering the conversation. And when they are present, people feel it.

I’ve done my best to learn from them all.

Now, when I am brought in to work with companies who are struggling, this is part of what I work on with the top leadership. If you are not present to your people, you are missing the mark every time.

I’ve recently had space open for a small number of 1:1 executive clients. Because my work is highly personalised and goes far beyond traditional coaching, these spots rarely become available. If you’re looking for a strategic thought partner who can help you think more clearly, lead with more awareness, and make decisions that align with where you are in your life and career, let’s talk and see whether this is the right match.

Sundays used to be just another part of the hustle for me. I constantly felt that if I wasn’t working on “something”, I was falling behind.

A couple of years ago, my partner challenged me on this and simply asked me to “just be” on a Sunday.

I did a deep sigh, rolled my eyes, and (reluctantly) agreed. I hate (and also love) how right he was. Sundays are a reset. Time to reflect on what was. Moments to process what’s on the way.

It has been the loveliest gift. So, on this day of rest, I wish all of you the same - time to sit, rest, reflect, process and just be.

Happy Sunday!

The real and practical solution that few people dare to propose to executives:

Just stop.

“I’m sorry, Amanda… say what now?”

Stop. Step away from the chaos machine. Leave your phone on your desk (and your tablet… and don’t even think about picking up that laptop). Put on your sunglasses and walk outside.

We live in a work culture that is slowly killing us. We’ve bought into the lie that everything will fall apart if we’re not constantly on the move. We even apologise or make excuses for moments of stillness.

The truth is executives do not need another “How to…” book with five steps to this or seven ways to that. They need a moment to remember who they are and how they got here in the first place.

The world – your world – will not fall apart if you take a 15-minute break to breathe. Take a walk. Sit on the grass. “Lay like a vegetable.” Watch butterflies dance, listen to the birds, take in (the sights and sounds of your current environment).

In fact, you and your world might be better for it. Happy Friday, everyone!
