RESOURCE MOBILISATION TRAINING | SESSION 2- WEEK 4
The NGOs Capacity Building and Mentorship Programme 2026–2027 at Supreme Global Solutions Consulting.

For start-up and emerging NGOs, turning organisational goals into practical programmes requires more than a clear mission. It also requires the ability to identify resource opportunities, build strategic partnerships and mobilise the financial and non-financial resources needed to deliver results. These capabilities play an important role in helping organisations translate their strategic plans into action, extend their reach to more communities, strengthen programme implementation and build sustainable operations that support their long-term objectives.

As part of the NGOs Capacity Building and Mentorship Programme, Supreme Global Solutions Consulting is equipping Cohort 2 of the 30 mentees in programme with the knowledge, skills and practical approaches needed to strengthen their organizations' resource mobilisation capacity and improve their readiness to engage potential funders and partners.

Drawing on experience from more than 15 Resource Mobilisation Trainings conducted so far, this session will explore the different types of resources organisations need, how these resources complement one another. Participants will learn resource providers identification, apply appropriate resource mobilisation approaches, assess organisational readiness, cultivate and retain donor relationships, and uphold ethical standards of accountability and transparency. The session will also guide participants/mentees in developing organisational resource mobilisation strategies through resource mapping, prioritisation and practical action planning.

Supreme Global Solutions Consulting is a leading Botswana consultancy firm with international experience in organisational development and management, grantmaking and funding programmes design. We strengthen organisations through capacity building, mentorship, training, workshop design and facilitation in leadership, management and governance, organizational identity, resource mobilization, grant proposal writing, monitoring and evaluation, communications and visibility, advocacy and stakeholder engagement etc.

We also work with funding agencies to design grant programmes, develop Calls for Proposals and Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) templates, facilitate NOFO information-sharing sessions, review and assess grant applications, evaluate funded projects, and as implementation partners of grant-funded initiatives.

Our two flagship programmes are the Annual NGOs Capacity Building and Mentorship Programme and the Grantor–Grantee Forum, which strengthen civil society organisations and promote engagement between NGOs and funding agencies.

ORGANIZATIONAL IDENTITY | BUILDING THE FOUNDATION OF STRONG NGOs Supreme Global Solutions Consulting.

What makes an organization more than just a registered entity? What gives it direction, defines its purpose and distinguishes it from others working in the same sector? These are some of the questions we explored over the past two weeks across our physical and virtual groups of the 2026–2027 cohort of the NGOs Capacity Building and Mentorship Programme, convened by Supreme Global Solutions Consulting.

Organizational identity is one of the most important foundations of a credible, strategic and sustainable NGO. Before an organization can effectively mobilize resources, develop competitive grant proposals or build meaningful partnerships, it must first understand who it is, what it stands for and the change it seeks to create. Our sessions examined key components of organizational identity, including the organisation’s name, vision, mission, core values, objectives, target beneficiaries, geographic coverage, problems or issues addressed, activities, interventions, programmes and services, and unique value proposition. These components are interconnected.

A clear vision provides direction. A well-defined mission explains the organizations purpose. Core values guide its conduct, while objectives translate its purpose into intended results. Understanding target beneficiaries, geographic coverage and the problems being addressed helps ensure that programmes respond to real needs.Equally important, an organizations unique value proposition communicates what distinguishes its work and the value it brings to the communities it serves.

Organizational identity is therefore not simply an administrative exercise. It is a strategic foundation for programme development, institutional positioning, partnership building, fundraising and long-term sustainability. Importantly, this foundational session sets the stage for the upcoming 12 sessions of our programme, including resource mobilization and fundraising strategy development, leadership and governance, grant proposal writing, monitoring and evaluation, advocacy, financial management and organizational sustainability. Each subsequent session builds on the understanding that effective organizations need a clear purpose, strategic direction and a strong institutional foundation.

Through our NGOs Capacity Building and Mentorship Programme, we continue to support aspiring founders and emerging NGOs as they develop the knowledge, systems and strategic thinking needed to build stronger organizations. Before you write the proposal, define the organization.

Congratulations to the 2 Botswana grantee CSOs🎊🎊🏆🏆🥇

Supreme Global Solutions Consulting led by our CEO and Lead consultant Mr Barcos Mompati Mbakhwa served as the Botswana Service Provider for the Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture: leading the two-day Entanglement Workshops in Botswana under the Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture: Southern Africa (AEPC Southern Africa) project.

The Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture: Southern Africa project is part of European Union, European Commission cultural cooperation initiative, implemented by the Goethe-Institut South Africa across six countries: Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The AEPC Southern Africa project is part of a larger €30 million EU-funded Africa- Europe cultural cooperation programme. It aims to strengthen cultural cooperation within Southern Africa and between Southern Africa and Europe, enhance regional cultural production capacities, and promote intercultural dialogue through the co-creation of new narratives around tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

A major highlight was celebrating two Botswana organisations selected through the Co-Creation of New Heritage Narratives call, with each receiving funding of up to €55,000 to co-create innovative and inclusive heritage narratives, strengthen community participation and foster meaningful cultural exchange across borders.

The Botswana programme culminated in the official launch of the AEPC programme in Botswana at the National Museum, bringing together stakeholders from the cultural and creative industries and creating space for continued collaboration, panel discussion, exchange and new possibilities.

We look forward to seeing more Botswana CSOs, artists and creative practitioners benefit from the launched AEPC “Grants for Creative and Artistic Practitioners” call for proposals with funding supporting innovative creative projects and contributing to the growth of Botswana’s cultural and creative sector at/visit Goethe-Institut South Africa. (https://www.goethe.de/prj/aep/en/cal.html).
Selected practitioners will receive a €6,000 grant and participate in a six-month heritage narrative development process phase led by heritage organisations, culminating in three co-produced creative works.

Strengthening Leadership. Amplifying Voices. Building Stronger Civil Society Organisations.

At Supreme Global Solutions Consulting we recognise that the civil society landscape is constantly evolving. Globalisation, changing development priorities, increasingly competitive funding environments, new technologies, and emerging approaches to social impact are reshaping how civil society organisations operate, mobilise resources, demonstrate impact, and engage with partners.

We therefore believe that strengthening civil society requires more than local knowledge. It requires exposure to diverse perspectives, international practices, emerging approaches, and opportunities to learn, exchange ideas and engage with experts working across different contexts.

As part of our commitment to strengthening Botswana’s civil society sector, SGS Consulting recently partnered and hosted Libre Foundation from the Netherlands for an intensive five-day Leadership and Communications Training in Botswana, bringing international expertise directly to start-up and youth-led civil society organisations.

The training created an opportunity for local organisations to engage with international practitioners, exchange experiences, explore different approaches to leadership, communication and resource mobilization, and strengthen practical skills that can be applied within their own organisations.

Our collaboration with Libre Foundation represents another step in SGS Consulting’s continued work to bring together local experience and international perspectives to strengthen organisations, develop leaders and contribute to a more capable and sustainable civil society sector in Botswana.

Looking forward to the follow-up training, more learning opportunities, and welcoming more experts from Libre Foundation to share their knowledge and expertise with the cohort in 2027.

A special thank you to Stanbic Bank Botswana Accelerate Incubator
for hosting us, as well as Botswana National Youth Council- BNYC
for their continued support, commitment and contribution to youth empowerment and CSOs development.

Through SGS Consulting, the training focused on strengthening participants's practical understanding and skills in navigating the grant funding process, from identifying suitable grants opportunities and assessing eligibility, to developing responsive and competitive grant proposals, preparing supporting documentation and understanding grantors’ requirements.

We covered practical areas including:

• Compliance and due diligence
• Sub-granting models and consortiums

REGISTRATION FOR THE NEXT COHORT OF THE NGOs CAPACITY BUILDING & MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME IS ONGOING!

The programme provides practical training, capacity building, mentorship and exposure to the wider NGO and funding ecosystem.

We are equally pleased to congratulate the 20 mentees who have successfully completed the 2026 Programme. The rationale behind this Programme is that many individuals establish or aspire to establish Non-Profit-Making Organizations with strong ideas and commitment but with little or no prior knowledge, practical skills or experience on how to operate, grow and sustain them.

At the early stages, aspiring, newly established and emerging NGOs have limited access to structured capacity building, practical training, coaching, mentorship, technical guidance and support, networks and seed funding specifically designed to help them establish and strengthen and sustain their organisations. This gap is particularly evident when compared with the range of structured programmes and initiatives available to support the establishment and growth of profit-making enterprises."

The programme therefore was established to bridge this gap by providing long term capacity building to start up NGOs and aspirants. Through a combination of physical and virtual learning sessions, our mentees explores core components of NGOs operations.

Our 20 mentees had opportunities to learn directly from and engage with more than 25 stakeholders, including CSOs, funding agencies, Embassies, private-sector and sector experts.

CSOs’ Lived Experiences of Accessing Funding: What It Takes to Secure Resources.

Accessing funding is a process that begins long before a grant proposal is submitted. CSOs have to know where funding opportunities can be found, determine whether an opportunity is relevant and eligible, develop a strong grant proposal, build relationships and partnerships, respond to funder requirements, and deal with the reality of both successful and unsuccessful grant applications.

At the Grantor–Grantee Forum 2026, Pearl Oratile Shamukuni –Resource Mobilization Officer from the Botswana Gender Based Violence Prevention & Support Centre, shared practical lessons from her organization's experience with grant proposal development, networking and relationship building consortium building.

One of the practical issues she spoke about was where CSOs actually find funding opportunities. Her advice was to look beyond simply waiting for grant calls. CSOs can monitor donor websites, funding platforms, government opportunities and corporate CSR programmes; follow organisations and networks working in their thematic areas; participate in sector meetings and networking opportunities; engage existing partners around emerging priorities; and maintain a funding database that tracks potential funders, their priorities, deadlines and previous funding.

She highlighted that “identifying a funding opportunity does not mean that an organisation is ready to apply. A competitive grant application needs to demonstrate more than a good idea. Funders need to see a clearly defined and evidence-based problem, a realistic response that makes sense for the community, organisational capacity and credible leadership, measurable results, a justified budget, relevant experience and impact, and sound safeguarding, governance and financial systems.”

Pearl also pointed to some of the mistakes she has seen CSOs make including: applying for opportunities simply because they are available, without checking alignment; weak problem analysis; activities that do not clearly lead to the proposed results; poorly justified budgets; and failure to follow application instructions.
She also added that there is the part of funding that is rarely discussed enough: rejection. A strong grant proposal does not automatically result in funding. Decisions can be affected by strategic fit, competition, donor priorities, geography, the amount of funding available and other subjective considerations within a particular funding process.

For Pearl, the response to rejection should not simply be to move on to the next opportunity but advised CSOs to Analyse, Learn, Improve and Apply again.

This is exactly why we convened the Grantor–Grantee Forum. The Forum is intended to create a space where emerging and grassroots CSOs can hear directly from organisations that have navigated the funding landscape, including the realities of finding opportunities, developing proposals, building relationships, facing rejection and learning what it takes to keep going.

Appreciation to Pearl Oratile Shamukuni for sharing her organisation’s practical experiences, lessons and insights on navigating the funding landscape, and for contributing to a conversation that our mentees and emerging and grassroots CSOs need to hear.
