Morupule Coal Mine’s (MCM) First Aid Team secured fourth position out of 16 teams at the Botswana Chamber of Mines Intermine First Aid Competitions.

The competition brought together teams from several mining houses to demonstrate their first aid skills and emergency response capabilities.

The achievement reflects the team’s preparation, technical competence and commitment to workplace safety.

First aid capability is an important component of MCM’s safety approach, equipping employees with the skills to respond effectively to emergencies and help protect lives in the workplace.

The competitions provided a platform for participating mining houses to demonstrate their emergency preparedness while reinforcing the importance of continuous training, teamwork and a strong safety culture across the mining sector.

MCM congratulates its First Aid Team on the achievement and its continued contribution to workplace safety.

𝐁𝐄𝐘𝐎𝐍𝐃 𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐊𝐈𝐋𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒: 𝐌𝐂𝐌 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐆𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐊𝐆𝐀𝐃𝐈 𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐊 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐄

From 25–27 September 2026, MCM employees took on the Makgadikgadi 100KM Night Walk in Mosu, a challenge that tested endurance, resilience and mental strength.

100 kilometers. It sounds like just a number until you find yourself walking it.

The Makgadikgadi 100KM Night Walk proved to be much more than a test of distance. The challenging terrain made every kilometer count, while the wet conditions added another layer of difficulty, making an already demanding route even tougher to navigate.

Yet, despite the conditions, the spirit of the walk remained strong. MCM employees showed up ready to take on the challenge, support one another, and, most importantly, enjoy the experience. There were moments of laughter, fatigue, determination and perhaps a few moments when 100 kilometers seemed like a very questionable decision!

Some participants successfully completed the full distance, while others did not make it to the finish line. But every person who started the journey took on a challenge that demanded both physical and mental resilience.

For MCM, participating in the Makgadikgadi 100KM Night Walk was about more than completing a distance. It was about team spirit, pushing personal limits and embracing an experience that challenged us in ways we could not fully anticipate.

The terrain was tough, the conditions unforgiving and the kilometers long, but the memories, camaraderie and sense of achievement made the journey worthwhile.

MCM showed up. MCM took on the challenge. And MCM walked it!

As Botswana celebrated 60 years of independence under the theme “Building Resilience, Driving Prosperity,” MCM took the celebration into the communities we call home.

𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐩𝐲𝐞: 𝐂𝐄𝐎 𝐄𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐬, 𝐆𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

MCM CEO Edwin Elias was Guest Speaker at the main district celebration at the Palapye Kgotla. MCM also extended donations to Kgotlas in Palapye, Serowe, Serule and surrounding villages.

His message was simple: “Minerals do not build nations. People do, when minerals are governed with integrity and reinvested in the people.”

Reflecting on MCM’s journey from its first coal production in 1973 to Motheo, Elias reaffirmed MCM’s commitment to Palapye and its neighbouring communities.

MCM Head of Mining Lesiba Chuene, representing the CEO, joined Tsetsebjwe’s independence celebration as Guest of Honour. He reflected on Botswana’s journey of resilience and Tsetsebjwe’s rich community heritage.

From Palapye to Tsetsebjwe, the message was clear: building Botswana’s future is a shared responsibility.
