Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) wishes to announce the release of the 2012 Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) results.

A total number of 31,665 candidates sat for the examinations compared to 28,702 in 2011. Out of the 31,665 candidates who sat for the 2012 examinations, 23,158 were from Government and Government-Aided schools compared to 21,240 in 2011. Private schools presented 3,116 candidates compared to 1,868 in 2011. There were 5,391 private candidates compared to 5,594 in 2011.

Overall performance in the 2012 BGCSE Examinations
The total number of grades awarded (for all syllabuses and all candidates) is 204,050 compared to 211,618 in 2011.
Out of these 5,802 (0.03%) were grades A and A*.
The number of grades issued in 2012 that are C or better is 65,798 (32.3%) compared to 65,303 (30.90%) in 2011. This shows an increase of 1.4%.
The percentage of candidates awarded 5 C’s or better is 25.40% compared to 28.72% in 2011, showing a decline of 3.18%.

Performance at subject level
The results show that there is significant improvement in performance in Home Management, Music and Fashion & Fabrics.
Generally, there is a decline in performance across the rest of the subjects.
On the basis of 5 C’s or better, females performed better than males. However, female candidates continue to outperform male candidates in Humanities and Languages while in Mathematics, Sciences and Creative and Vocational subjects male candidates outperformed female candidates.

Two candidates were disqualified for examination malpractice while the results of 54 candidates have been withheld pending completion of investigations.

And God spoke all these words, saying:
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bo***ge.

1. You shall have no other gods before me.
2. You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
5. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
