NOTICE: From the Central Bank of Belize
Temporary Disruption of the Automated Payments and Securities Settlement System
Belize City, 9 June 2025: The Central Bank of Belize (Central Bank) advises the public that the Automated Payments and Securities Settlement System (APSSS) will be temporarily unavailable from 5:00 p.m. on Friday, 20 June 2025, to 8:00 a.m. on Monday, 23 June 2025, to facilitate a system upgrade. During this period, domestic financial institutions will not be able to access APSSS services. However, Instant Funds Transfer (IFT) services will be available starting Saturday afternoon and will remain active throughout the remainder of the weekend.
This scheduled downtime is part of the Central Bank's efforts to modernize the National Payment System. In collaboration with the Government and domestic financial institutions, the Central Bank is upgrading APSSS to adopt the ISO 20022 international standard for financial messaging. This upgrade will improve the efficiency, security, and interoperability of payment processing across Belize's financial system.
The public is encouraged to check with their respective financial institutions for updates and for information on available payment options during the temporary disruption.
The Central Bank apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates your patience and understanding as we work to enhance the country's financial infrastructure.
