I’m so grateful to the Construction Association of Nova Scotia for the opportunity to be part of this year’s Stanhope Simpson Insurance Women in Construction Forum!

Creating spaces where people can connect meaningfully — especially in ways that help them feel seen, supported, and more confident — is something I’m deeply passionate about. I’m looking forward to facilitating these interactive networking sessions and helping attendees build relationships that last well beyond the event!

Thank you to the CANS team for continuing to champion connection, collaboration, and community across the construction industry. I can’t wait to see everyone on October 28 at Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia!

What a wonderful day! I truly enjoyed spending time with Board members of the Nova Scotia Community Living Organizations (formerly NSRAA) as they came together to shape their strategic priorities for the next three years.

With four virtual member engagement conversations planned, I’m excited to see how the voices of their members will help guide and strengthen the incredible work they do supporting agencies across Nova Scotia.

A big thank-you to Lora Church, Executive Director, for reaching out and inviting me to be part of this important process. I’m grateful for the opportunity to support such meaningful ! /Gerard

A little Monday reminder that I keep coming back to…

There’s a powerful difference between reacting and responding.

Reacting is often instant - and emotional.
It can come from a place of stress, habit, or heat-of-the-moment energy.

Responding? That takes a pause.
It’s intentional. It reflects thought, choice, and clarity.

Whether it’s a tough moment at work, a curveball in a relationship, or just navigating the day-to-day - pausing to respond rather than react makes all the difference. Right?

Still learning this one myself, but it’s a game changer. /Gerard Murphy

I had the pleasure of spending the past two days with the Nova Scotia Health Authority Public Health Mobile Unit provincial team in Dartmouth, facilitating a professional development workshop focused on building capacity and strengthening team dynamics.

Together, we explored personality temperament using the Personality Dimensions tool, embraced the idea of a facilitative mindset, and discussed techniques for navigating challenging situations through assertive communication. We also explored the similarities and differences of working as a nurse in public health compared to other settings such as acute care, long term care, home care, and mental health.

See the images below depicting the creative outputs from our small group drawing discussions!

Thank you to everyone for your engagement, openness, and enthusiasm throughout our time together. Wishing you continued success in the important work you do across the province. /Gerard Murphy

This morning’s session with the Construction Association of Nova Scotia’s LEAP cohort was all about the power - and challenge - of leading up in construction.

It was inspiring to see participants leaning into honest about how to adapt their approach to better support senior leaders, while still advocating for their crew/teams on the ground. We explored practical strategies for communicating with impact, understanding leadership priorities, and - most importantly - building trust across levels.

Huge thanks to CANS for creating the space for this dialogue. These types of conversations are key to developing confident, connected frontline leaders who can move the industry forward. 👏👏👏
