Moisture and sun has made a lot of crops in the area come in fast, especially barley! I bet you have less time to wait for incrop then you think you do, especially with shaky rain forecasts!! Awesome to see good growing conditions, should have a good kill on cereal and pulse incrop…. LL canola, let’s hope for some more heat next week!

A wrap on seeding, and a busy incrop started. Heat and moisture has made for some fast growing crops and a lot of acres to be sprayed for incrop quickly… rain, shine, wind, dust, dirt (in my teeth)… I seen it all this spring as per usual…. one day you’re sweating and the next you’re shivering on a spring day in Saskatchewan! 🌾

An idea I have been toying with for a while, I don’t wanna spread myself too thin scouting acres, but I would like to help more growers and be in the conversation with more farmers in the area. This is the idea I had to close that gap!! 🌱

Wouldn’t be a trip to a foreign country if I didn’t snap a few local crop pics! New Zealand has amazing flora biodiversity. Looking forward to more Saskatchewan sunsets this summer, but sure wish there could be a lavender field in front of one. Hoping to post more this year, and potentially have a new business idea for spring to make my job more inclusive for farmers I don’t have time to scout for, but would love to be able to offer some level of support to 😊

My foreign journeys proved fruitful for agronomy in Germany 🇩🇪, we were lucky enough to get some amazing farm tours from some fellas that have spent time working at farms in Biggar (or still do, or that we are convincing to come back to Canada on request from our mutual boss 🤪🇨🇦!!). We got to join in on a sugar beet harvest, tour a biogas plant, and stayed in a town with special soil like no other place around it…. due to a meteor impact estimated 14 million years ago and deposited an unreal amount of minerals and made the soil uniquely rich. It was amazing the difference in soil colour inside and outside of the crater. The sugar beet harvesters had actually done custom work for some Hoppe’s located half an hour from where my grandpa Bruno Hoppe was born… I was sure to ask a million agronomy and history questions! I learned so much, and I’m so thankful for all the opportunities I’ve been given in life and with my job.

For preharvest glyphosate on lentils ideally moisture is under 30%. Which means about 80% of the plant is yellow to brown (looks from a road glass are deceiving!!). Seeds at the bottom 1/3 are brown/tan, hard, and ideally the bottom will rattle as the seeds have fully formed and detached. The top 1/3 of the plant are fully formed and firm (no moisture left in seed!!). This field was a on the early side so no application yet, but… the forecast is going to make these decisions easier and quicker!! ☀️ Now if only on the rolling prairies every plant looked the same 😅🌱
