One reasons why bed bugs are difficult to find is that they can hide in a 1 mm crack. The fourth cat in this photo is a relatable example of a low visibility target. Using olfaction, a detection dog usually finds trained target scents from farther away and much quicker than human inspectors using vision. https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=563269932509714&set=a.560951246074916

Travelling to Chicago, New York or Philadelphia? Follow the SLEEP steps to minimize the risk of bringing bed bugs home:
* S = Survey the hotel room for signs of an infestation. Be on the lookout for tiny, ink-colored stains on mattress seams, in soft furniture and behind headboards.

* L = Lift and look in bed bug hiding spots: the mattress, box spring and other furniture, as well as behind baseboards, pictures and even torn wallpaper.

* E = Elevate luggage away from the bed and wall. The safest places are in the bathroom or on counters.

* E = Examine your luggage carefully while repacking and once you return home from a trip. Always store luggage away from the bed.

* P = Place all dryer-safe clothing from your luggage in the dryer for at least 30-45 minutes at the highest setting after you return home.
