Took a little sketchbook journaling break today. My from was to trace a shadow.

I chose these chive blossoms, because they are so pretty in the sunlight. It was only afterwards that I reflected on the irony of choosing to capture the beauty of something I actively dislike (I even washed my hands immediately after cause I smelled like onion 🤢)

I love how the process of a creative act can pull thoughts from the back of you mind and give you an opportunity to connect more deeply with yourself.

Today is my dad's birthday. It seems as good a day as any to make this post. My dad was one of my favourite people in the world, and he was the inspiration and the motivation behind starting my business.

When I was agonizing over the pull within me to run my own business, he said to me "I've been waiting for you to say this to me". He saw in me the things that made him a successful entrepreneur, and he encouraged me to go for it, despite my fears.

His advice always started with "the thing you need to understand is...". I can hear that phrase so clearly in my mind everytime I'm trying to figure things out.

If you don't know, I lost my dad quite suddenly a month and a half ago. Even though I'm not ready to return to whatever my business looks like moving forward, I wanted to take a moment to honour him.

So, when I am looking for a path forward, I will picture my dad as he is here. With a cheeky grin, and a mischievous twinkle in his eye saying...

"Kim, the thing you need to understand is [insert Dad advice here]."

There’s something incredible about the depth of meaning behind many words.

Simple.
Powerful.
Lighter.
Inspired.

If working together makes any one of these words cross your mind, then I am forever grateful that you gave me a chance.

Feel powerful. Feel lighter. Get inspired. Simply.

Thank you for this wonderful Google review, Mel. You make me giddy. 💖
