Can we stop giving overwhelmed parents MORE things to do? 😅
"Remember to prioritize self-care!"
Okay...but the baby's hungry, there are three bottles on the counter, someone hasn't slept longer than 90 minutes, the laundry has developed its own postal code, and now we're supposed to start journaling? 😂
Sometimes support isn't adding another coping strategy.
Sometimes it's figuring out:
What can we take OFF your plate?
Maybe I hold baby while you shower.
Maybe your partner needs an actual job instead of "just tell me what you need."
Maybe we turn down the lights because your nervous system has had enough input for today.
Maybe I make you something to eat while you feed baby.
Maybe we decide the laundry can live in the basket.
Maybe you need 20 minutes where nobody needs anything from you.
And sometimes you don't need me to solve anything at all.
You need someone to sit beside you and say:
"Yeah. This is a lot."
Especially when you're neurodivergent, recovering from a difficult pregnancy or birth, managing chronic illness, or simply completely touched-out, the answer isn't always doing more.
Sometimes good support means making life require a little less from you. 💜
That's what individualized postpartum care means to me.
Not giving every family the same checklist.
Finding out what your family needs today.
Because tomorrow?
It might be completely different.
What's one thing someone could take off your plate today?
