A 900 MW gas-fired power plant is under construction just 45 kilometres west of Block VIII, with two 450 MW turbines expected to come online in phases through 2026 and 2027.

According to Angkor Resources' corporate presentation, all of the plant's gas must currently be imported and purchased, highlighting potential domestic demand should Block VIII ultimately prove a commercial gas resource.

This week on World Energy Day, one fact frames the energy conversation in Cambodia.

The country imports 100% of its hydrocarbon-based energy products.

That is why finding a domestic supply of oil and gas remains a high priority. In southwest Cambodia, Angkor Resources’ subsidiary EnerCam has completed 350 line-kilometres of 2D seismic surveying on Block VIII. In September, its drilling environmental impact assessment was approved.

In the field on Block VIII, geologist Justin Snelling is teaching graduate students from the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) how to read rock outcrops and identify minerals under an optical microscope. "...The copper is in the potassic and chlorite-sericite alteration, while the phyllic zone near the top appears to lack it," said Dennis Ouellette, Angkor Resources' VP of Exploration.

A study by Kyushu University and the Institute of Technology of Cambodia identified three alteration zones in Thmei North drill core, supporting the potential for a porphyry copper-molybdenum system at Andong Bor.

According to Ouellette, this shows where to aim the next phase of drilling, planned for early 2027.

📢 NEWS RELEASE: Angkor Resources reports findings from a scientific study of drill core at its Thmei North target in Cambodia.

Conducted by Kyushu University and the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, the study identified characteristics consistent with a porphyry copper-molybdenum system, supporting the company's exploration model.

The findings will help guide the remaining 1,700 meters of drilling planned for early 2027.

Using 350 line-kilometres of seismic data, Angkor Resources' subsidiary EnerCam has mapped four separate sub-basins across Block VIII: Bokor South, Bokor Central, Bokor North, and Kirirom.

The plan calls for one exploration well in each sub-basin, with the location of a fifth well to be determined based on geological information from the initial drilling.

Earlier drilling at Angkor Resources' Andong Bor project never showed how the intrusive rock meets the surrounding sedimentary rock.

Drilling at Thmei North, reported last month, revealed that relationship for the first time. The contacts are very steep, from 70 to 80 degrees. Copper mineralization in the sediments is both disseminated and along fractures parallel to these contacts.
