Yesterday I competed in the mountains with some truly incredible people and I was reminded why I keep showing up for hard things.

As I get older, the competitive itch hasn’t faded. If anything, I’ve learned it’s less about winning and more about proving to myself that I can. That I’m built for the uncomfortable. That when something hard shows up, my answer is “what time do I need to be there?”

Nothing good lives in the comfort zone. The work I’ve put in both mentally and physically are so I never have to talk myself out of an adventure. I just say yes.

Grateful for the mountains, the people, and the reminder.

I know nobody talks about this, but hiring an accountant before a bookkeeper might be costing you more money 😭

Your accountant can only work with what you give them, and if your books are a mess, you’re likely paying CPA rates to clean up what a bookkeeper should have been maintaining all along.

It’s like hiring a nutritionist without tracking your food. They want to help; they just can’t do much without the data.

A bookkeeper handles the foundation, so your accountant can do their job and honestly, so can you 🥹

We’ve all done it. You’re in a rush, you shove a receipt into the console or a random bag, and tell yourself you’ll deal with it later.

But “later” usually means spending two hours digging through your car or scrolling through your camera roll looking for a screenshot. By the time you find it, the thermal paper has usually faded to blank anyway.

Give your receipts one home this week.

It doesn’t have to be fancy. Pick an app, an email folder, or one physical spot on your desk. Just make it somewhere you’ll use.

If your receipts are living in five different places right now, don’t beat yourself up. Most business owners are in the same boat before we build them a system that makes sense.

The goal isn’t a perfect system. The goal is not having to tear apart your car when you need one receipt.

The things nobody tells you when you start a business... but I wish they did. 🔔

Being busy doesn’t mean being profitable. You could be generating revenue and still struggle, not even knowing why.

Pulling money from your account isn’t the same as paying yourself properly, and this is one I see all the time and is a dangerous game to play. Your business isn’t an ATM, and you need to understand how much money you can pull from the business and how much should be set aside for expenses, taxes and savings.

It’s also easy to suddenly find yourself months behind on your books without even realizing it. I get that the books aren’t your area of expertise, but avoiding them doesn’t mean they don’t need to get done.

These are the things I see come up again and again with business owners, and none of it means you’ve failed, but it can mean you need better systems and someone in your corner who gets it.

That’s exactly what Reset & Rise is here for. You deserve to understand your numbers, not fear them.

Week 3 of and this one? I see it ALL the time. 😅

So here’s the thing with expense accounts. You don’t need a ton of them, but you do need some.

If everything is just sitting under “miscellaneous expenses,” you have no idea where your money went and if you have 40 categories trying to track every little thing..., you’re never going to keep up with it. That’s how the books get abandoned. I’ve seen it happen.

For most of my clients, something like this does the trick:

✅ Meals & Entertainment
✅ Software & Subscriptions
✅ Office Supplies
✅ Travel
✅ Contractors / Subcontractors
✅ Advertising & Marketing
✅ Professional Fees
✅ Bank Fees & Interest

Simple, doable and when you pull your reports at the end of the month, you’ll know what you’re looking at.
