🇬🇭🤝🇨🇦 Strengthening Ghana–Canada Agricultural Cooperation: Successful Completion of the Ghana–Canada Agricultural & Agri-Business Field Mission 2025 (Alberta, Canada)
From November 3–7, 2025, a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Republic of Ghana, led by Hon. John Setor Dumelo, Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, and Hon. Charity Gardiner, Ahafo Regional Minister, concluded a successful Agricultural and Agri-Business Field Mission across the Province of Alberta, Canada.
Organized in collaboration with the Ghana High Commission (Ottawa) and the Canada–Ghana Chamber of Commerce (Calgary Chapter), the mission explored key areas of bilateral cooperation in smart irrigation, agricultural technology, livestock genetics, and sustainable food systems.
🌾 Strategic Highlights
Government-to-Government Dialogue with Alberta’s Ministry of Agriculture & Irrigation, advancing frameworks for food security, agri-innovation, and capacity-building.
Academic Partnership discussions with Olds College of Agriculture & Technology to foster exchange programs and applied research in digital farming and irrigation technology.
Livestock Collaboration through technical meetings at Farmfair International on embryo transfer, artificial insemination, and genetic improvement models adaptable to Ghana’s tropical context.
Industry Tours across Red Deer, Lacombe, and Southern Alberta, where delegates experienced precision equipment systems, greenhouse technology, and value-chain innovations.
🌍 Next Phase: Ghana–Canada Agri-Business Investment Summit 2026
Building on the momentum from this field mission, Ghana and Canada are preparing for the Main Ghana–Canada Agricultural & Agri-Business Investment Summit, scheduled for August 24–28, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta.
This high-level summit will consolidate institutional partnerships, promote agri-investment opportunities, and accelerate technology transfer for the modernization of Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Hon. John Dumelo emphasized that the mission “marks a new era of practical agricultural cooperation and innovation between Ghana and Canada.”
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture expresses appreciation to the Government of Alberta, Olds College, Farmfair International, and all partners for their invaluable collaboration and hospitality.
