It has been a little while since the last episode of "Debugging Midlife" dropped. I got sick for a bit at the beginning of September, nothing serious, but enough that I needed to slow down and rest.

While I was recovering, I decided to take care of a few other things that had been waiting in the wings, including running in the 2025 CIRA Board of Directors election. And now that life has settled into something normal again, I am back behind the mic. A new episode will drop next week!

The results are in for the CIRA Board of Directors election. Congratulations to all the candidates who were elected this year.

I am proud to have put my name forward and to have shared my ideas on how we can strengthen and protect Canada's internet. Thank you to everyone who supported me along the way.

September was a challenging month for me as I was unwell, and I was not able to network and connect as much as I had hoped. That is something I will work on next time, because I believe my perspective is an important one to add to the conversation.

This experience has been a valuable step, and I look forward to participating more actively in the future and continuing to advocate for a fair, transparent, and inclusive internet for all Canadians.

As you know, I am running for the CIRA Board of Directors Member Slate. Voting is now open!

I am focusing on making Canada's internet stronger, fairer, and more transparent. Here are the priorities I am advocating for:

• Relevance - The .CA domain must stay meaningful. I will work to boost its visibility and value through clear communication, education, and partnerships.
• Equity - Reliable, affordable internet should reach every community. I will support investments that close access gaps and improve digital inclusion across Canada.
• Advocacy - Canada needs a strong voice in global internet governance. I will promote openness, fairness, and privacy that reflect Canadian values.

Why you should vote for me:

• Bringing an experienced voice to the table - I have spent almost 30 years in Canadian tech and digital strategy, and I understand both the policy and the technical side of the internet ecosystem.
• Offering a new voice with proven board experience - I have served on other boards and understand how to provide strong governance, strategic insight, and community accountability. While I bring that expertise to CIRA, I am also a fresh perspective for this board. I represent small business owners, independent developers, and nonprofit leaders who rely on Canada's internet infrastructure every day. I want to ensure fresh ideas, practical solutions, and the voices of everyday Canadians are part of the discussion so CIRA stays connected to the community it serves.

If you are a CIRA member, please take a few minutes to vote. Your support helps keep Canada's internet strong and independent.

Please consider sharing this post to help me reach more CIRA members. Every share increases visibility and helps spread the word.

New laptop came through when my desktop kept crashing on Zoom, so I was able to take part in the CIRA board candidate meet and greet.

I really enjoyed meeting the other candidates and was impressed by the experience and perspectives they bring. It was also great to hear from members about what matters to them in Canada’s digital space.

I’m sharing some exciting news. I am a candidate in the 2025 CIRA Board of Directors election.

For over 25 years I have worked across technology, education, and nonprofit leadership. My career has taken me from developer and project manager to professor, consultant, and executive director. No matter the role, my focus has always been on making technology accessible, supporting digital equity, and ensuring community voices are heard.

My campaign is focused on three priorities:
• Relevance: keeping .CA trusted and meaningful in a crowded digital world
• Equity: expanding affordable access for rural, northern, and under-served communities
• Advocacy: ensuring Canadian voices are heard in global digital governance

I believe Canada’s internet must remain open, secure, and representative of all Canadians.

I have just returned home after being in the hospital from September 1 to September 10. I am still very much in recovery and not feeling well, so I will be stepping back from posting here and pausing new podcast episodes until I have had time to fully heal.

Thank you for your understanding and patience. I look forward to being back once I am feeling stronger.

Hey friends, quick update. Episode 2 of Debugging Midlife will be a little late. I have been in the hospital since Monday night and just need some recovery time before I can get back to recording.

Thanks for hanging in with me. If you missed Episode 1 ("An Introduction"), you can listen on Spotify, Apple, or YouTube while I get back on my feet.

Episode 1 of Debugging Midlife is live: An Introduction.

In this kickoff, I share where it all started for me back in the 90s, how the spark first caught, and what’s kept me going through the shifts and challenges of the industry. I also talk about why I believe debugging life is not so different from debugging code. Sometimes the smallest change makes all the difference, and sometimes it’s the system around us that needs adjusting.

This podcast is a space for those of us with experience, perspective, and curiosity, who still have plenty to contribute in tech. Experience matters, and so do we.

Next week I’ll share some of the actual tools I still use, including a few old ones that newer folks in tech might not even recognize. It’s a retro meets modern kind of reflection, and I think you’ll find it surprising.

Starting the journey, sharing the purpose, and setting the tone for what’s ahead.
