Last chance to participate in the survey - closing on Friday!! We want to hear your thoughts.
Shorelines in Prince Edward Island are always changing. Natural changes can be caused by flooding, waves, storms, and sea level rise. Other changes happen because of human activity like the construction of retaining walls and other types of shoreline hardening. Both natural and human changes to the shoreline can impact natural habitats and affect people, property, infrastructure and the economy.
The shoreline management plans (SMP) project aims to reduce the risks to people, buildings, and the natural environments so that generations of Islanders, new and old, can continue to safely enjoy our beautiful coast.

The We6 Planning Group is working with the Government of Prince Edward Island and CBCL Engineering to prepare shoreline management plans (SMPs) for the southeast portion of PEI, extending from West River to Boughton, as well as on Lennox Island. SMPs are focused on areas that are located along the shoreline and include municipalities and unincorporated areas with shorelines in the study area.
Shoreline management plans (SMPs) are used to help residents and public officials make informed decisions about development along shorelines or coasts, showing where different types of adaptation work best. It is an approach that looks at the system as a whole and then applies it to the local scale. Shoreline management plans help to support local municipal and community resilience using approaches that can evolve over time as conditions change.

There will be several ways to the public to participate the process this fall:
• Attend a Public Open Houses: September 23-25, 2025
• Complete the SMP survey (https://tinyurl.com/msvtnbee)

The open house sessions will be an opportunity to discuss shoreline management planning and the process for this project. The drop-in sessions will be used to introduce the process of shoreline management planning, to enable discussion with the project team, and to share posters and other information on shoreline management.
