Why Would Someone Need a Night Nurse?
Most people don’t think about overnight support until they’re exhausted, overwhelmed, recovering, or trying to care for someone they love while functioning on very little sleep.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse, I provide awake overnight nursing and respite support in the comfort of your home for newborns, children, adults, seniors, and caregivers who need rest, reassurance, or an extra set of hands through the night.
The truth is, needing support isn’t a sign that you’re failing. Sometimes it simply means you need a village. ❤️
❤️ Newborn & Postpartum Support
The early weeks with a new baby can be beautiful, but they can also be exhausting.
Overnight support may include:
• Feeding support (bottle feeding, paced feeding, bringing baby to parent for breastfeeding)
• Diaper changes
• Soothing and settling baby back to sleep
• Newborn monitoring and observation
• Bottle washing and preparation for the next day
• Baby laundry and light baby-related tasks if time allows
• Support following evidence-based safe sleep recommendations
• Education and reassurance for new parents
• Helping reduce sleep deprivation and caregiver burnout
• Support during postpartum recovery, including after C-section or complicated deliveries
The goal is simple: helping parents get the rest they need to recover and care for their family.
❤️ Children
Some children need a little extra support overnight.
This may include:
• Frequent waking
• Illness recovery
• Sleep difficulties
• Anxiety at bedtime or overnight
• Nightmares or night terrors
• Monitoring while parents get uninterrupted rest
• Maintaining established bedtime and overnight routines
• Providing reassurance and comfort throughout the night
❤️ Neurodivergent Children & Youth / Higher Support Needs
Many families caring for children with higher support needs rarely get a full night’s sleep.
Overnight support may include:
• Support for autistic children and youth
• Support for children and youth with ADHD
• Sensory needs
• Developmental disabilities
• Cognitive impairments

• Providing a calm and predictable overnight environment

Many adults benefit from overnight support but don’t require hospitalization or long-term care placement.
Support may include:
• Overnight supervision
• Safety monitoring
• Medication administration as prescribed
• Assistance with toileting and personal care needs
• Support for individuals with physical disabilities
• Neurological conditions
• Chronic illness
• Mobility limitations
• Individuals living with cognitive impairments
• Providing reassurance and assistance throughout the night

• Orientation and reassurance
• Wandering prevention
• Observation and reporting of changes or concerns
• Assistance with routines and personal care
• Supporting families who are providing ongoing care at home
❤️ Seniors & Aging Adults
Many seniors wish to remain in their own homes while receiving support.
Overnight care may include:
• Dementia and memory care support
• Wandering prevention and safety monitoring
• Fall risk monitoring
• Assistance with toileting
• Incontinence care
• Medication administration as prescribed
• Reorientation and reassurance during periods of confusion
• Monitoring for comfort and safety throughout the night
• Providing companionship and a calm overnight presence
• Giving family caregivers an opportunity to sleep
❤️ Palliative & End-of-Life Support
During some of life’s most difficult moments, families shouldn’t have to carry the weight alone.
Support may include:
• Comfort-focused care
• Repositioning and comfort measures
• Monitoring and observation
• Emotional support and presence
• Assistance with personal care needs
• Allowing family members an opportunity to rest while knowing their loved one is not alone
❤️ For Caregivers
Sometimes the person who needs care isn’t the client.
It’s the exhausted parent.
The spouse.
The adult child caring for an aging parent.
The caregiver who hasn’t slept through the night in months.
Overnight support can provide:
• Protected rest
• Reduced caregiver burnout
• Peace of mind
• Time to recover physically and emotionally
• The reassurance that someone is present and attentive throughout the night
No matter what stage of life you’re in, sometimes the greatest gift is simply knowing you don’t have to do it all alone. ❤️
