🚨 THINK YOU’VE SPOTTED A WASP NEST? LOOK CLOSER! 🐝
One of the biggest clues is where the nest is located and what it looks like — and in Alberta, yellow jacket nests can be surprisingly hard to find. 👀
🟤 Hornet nests
• Large, grey and football-shaped
• Made from a paper-like material
• Often hanging from trees, shrubs, eaves or buildings
• Usually have one visible entrance near the bottom
🟡 Yellow jacket nests
• Often hidden underground
• Can be inside wall voids, attics or dense bushes
• May have multiple entrance points
• Frequently stay out of sight until wasp activity increases
⚠️ That hidden location is why homeowners are often surprised to find wasps coming from under a deck, inside a wall, around landscaping timbers, or from a small hole in the ground.
If you’re seeing lots of yellow jackets but can’t find the nest, don’t assume there isn’t one. 🐝🏠
