Check out the homemade cottonwood bud salve giveaways we did up for the Moose FM Block Party!!!
These may seem like an odd swag but we're all about natural health products and foraging lately so why not giveaway something people can use for years to come?!
This spring we had several large cottonwood come down on our property just as the buds were about to open and were filled with sap. This resin is chock full of medicinal properties, so we figured why not put them to good use and make infused oils for healing balms/salves!!
The resin of cottonwood buds produces a powerful healing compound called salicin, a precursor to salicylic acid - the main ingredient of aspirin. It is a natural analgesic (pain reliever), anti-itch, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, febrifuge (fever reducer), antifungal, antimicrobial, and is also an expectorant (helps clear chest and nasal congestion like Vicks). It is effective at healing eczema, psoriasis, rashes, small cuts, burns, bug bites, etc.
These special salves contain infused cottonwood bud avocado oil, organic coconut oil, organic cocoa butter, local beeswax, and lemongrass and lavendar essential oil. What is amazing too is that the cottonwood is also a natural preservative known to keep products shelf life for many years!!
