Rural roads play a critical role in connecting communities to markets, schools, hospitals, and emergency services.
Through Sri Lanka’s Inclusive Connectivity and Development Project, more than 1,000 km of provincial and rural roads are being rehabilitated to improve connectivity, safety, climate resilience, and economic opportunity.
TotalPave supported this effort by helping local teams collect International Roughness Index data using only a smartphone, vehicle, and windshield mount.
For large-scale rural road programs, this kind of practical data collection matters. It helps make road assessment more accessible, scalable, and cost-effective, especially in areas where traditional survey equipment can be difficult or expensive to deploy.
Better data leads to better planning, and better planning leads to stronger, more resilient road networks.
