Thanksgiving is this weekend and despite the lovely warmth across most of Alberta that has led to daily high temperatures into the teens and low 20s, we are in for a major cool down that will also be met with the first accumulation of snow for much of the province. While this seems early, it’s act

We don’t talk about this enough. Sometimes First Responders are genuinely pi**ed off. Not traumatized.
Not everything in first responders mental health is PTSD.

Sometimes they’re just f’ing tired.

Tired of overtime.
Tired of working short.
Tired of missing family time.
Tired of being called on days off.
Tired of getting crapped on by the public.
Tired of being told to look after their mental health while the things wearing them down never change.

And maybe the biggest one?
Tired of feeling like nobody upstairs is listening.

You can give someone all the resilience training in the world, but eventually you have to ask:

Are we helping people cope, or should we be fixing some of the things they’re being asked to cope with?

Sometimes they’re not broken.
They’re just fed up.

If anyone has any vehicles in their yard that they’d like to get rid of, We at the fire department would like to take them off your hands so we would be able to train in using our new extraction tool. We would be able to come pick it up any time.
