Client Spotlight ⭐️ A Guy a Chainsaw and an Excavator

Some businesses are known long before you ever see their website. Jason Sperry is one of them.

If you live anywhere around Timberlea, Tantallon, or Hammonds Plains, you already know the name. For over 15 years, Jason has been the guy people call when a tree needs to come down safely, when it is leaning too close to the house, or tangled up near the power lines. About 90% of his work comes from referrals, which tells you everything. People trust him, and they tell their neighbours.

Here is what I love about his business. When you get a quote from Jason, Jason is the one who shows up to do the work. No handing you off, no crew you never met. The person who looks you in the eye is the person up in the tree. That kind of accountability is rare, and it is exactly why his reputation runs so deep in these communities.

So when we built his website, the goal was simple. Make it match the man. Honest, capable, and the first name that comes to mind when a tree becomes a problem. His reputation was already strong in real life. Now his online presence finally says the same thing.

If you have a tree that is worrying you, this is who you call.

A pretty website that does not convert is just an expensive business card.

I say this with love, because so many talented people spend money making their site look good, then wonder why it is not bringing in clients.

Looking good is not the job. Converting is.

Here are three things your homepage has to do in the first few seconds, or people quietly leave:

Say who you help and what you do, clearly. If a visitor has to guess, they are already gone.
Speak to the result they want, not the services you offer. People do not buy web design or bookkeeping or coaching. They buy the outcome.
Tell them exactly what to do next. One clear step. Confusion kills conversions faster than an ugly font ever could.

A beautiful site that does none of these is expensive decoration. A clear one that does all three is a tool that actually works for you.

Save this and check your own homepage against these three. And if you want the deeper version, I break this down on the podcast.

You are not starting over. You are leveling up.

Every season, every skill, every version of you was preparation for this one. If you have been feeling behind lately, let this be your reminder that you are further along than you think.

Tell me one thing you have leveled up in lately, big or small. I want to celebrate it with you. 👇

Client Spotlight ✨ ProfiTech Bookkeeping!

Say hello to Sylvia, the owner of ProfiTech Bookkeeping, and her daughter Monica, who is right there in the business with her.

Sylvia spent over 22 years in bookkeeping, and she does it specifically for contractors and construction businesses- the people who built their company from the ground up and would much rather be on the job than buried in receipts and spreadsheets. Based in New Brunswick, she and Monica work virtually with contractors across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Ontario, handling everything from job costing to CRA so their clients can win back their time and actually grow their profits.

There is something special about a mother and daughter building this together. It is the kind of trust and care you feel the moment you work with them. This project was also a great reminder of why niching down works. A bookkeeper for everyone sounds like everyone. A bookkeeper who speaks contractor speaks straight to the right person. So we built the site to do exactly that, leading with the outcome they deliver, more time and less stress, in the language their clients actually use.

Take a look at their new website: www.profitechbookkeeping.com

Congratulations, Sylvia and Monica!

New episode, and this one is personal.

You have the skills, the vision, the experience. But every time you get close to launching your website, a quiet voice says "it's not ready yet." So you wait, and your website keeps making you look smaller than you actually are.

Episode 3 is about the real thing standing between you and a website that works, and it is not design. It is mindset.

I break down the three blocks I watch stop talented experts every time: perfectionism, comparison, and imposter syndrome, plus the practical shifts that move you past them. Because here is the truth: your clients already trust you. Your website just needs to catch up to how good you already are.

You are way better than you look online. This episode helps you close the gap.

I'm not just your web designer.

Most businesses need a brand strategist, a website designer, and someone willing to actually dig into what past clients say about them. Usually that's three different people who've never talked to each other.

At Pikel Designs, it's one person, one process, and one clear strategy behind everything you see on your site.

Brand clarity. Deep discovery. Mindset strategy. Strategic website design. All four pillars, all under one roof.

My first female client in the fitness industry, and I am so proud of this one.

Meet Emma Korecki, registered massage therapist, certified personal trainer, strength coach, and competitive bodybuilder, and the founder of Kore Wellness and Strength in Halifax.

Emma has so much more to offer than most trainers. She built her business around helping women feel strong and at peace with their bodies, not just chasing numbers on a scale.

Before we touched design, we got clear on who she actually helps and why women choose her. That is why the site can say "you do not need more information, you need the right person" instead of a generic list of services.

Emma already has 500+ clients and a 97% referral and repeat rate. My job was making sure her website finally said that out loud.

Such a fun project, and there is more coming for Kore Wellness and Strength. Full site is linked in the comments.

If you know a Halifax woman who needs a massage therapist or personal trainer who actually listens, tag her below.

You're better than your website makes you look. That's not a design problem. It's a clarity problem.

I see this constantly with experts who've been in business for years. Real clients, real results, and a website that still doesn't say who they help or why someone should choose them over the next person in their field.

It usually sounds like this: "I don't know how to describe what I do without sounding like everyone else in my industry."

No amount of new fonts fixes that. Clarity does.

Brand Clarity is the first pillar I build every project on, and it's the one most people skip. They jump straight to design because design is the fun part. A beautiful website built on an unclear message still won't bring in clients.

I put together a checklist of the 10 branding mistakes I see most often, the ones quietly keeping capable, experienced experts invisible online, and exactly what to do instead. Link's in the comments below.

Know someone who needs this? Tag them, or save this post for when you're ready to look at your own website with fresh eyes.

People think my job is design. It is really listening.

Most of the magic happens before I open a single file. It happens right here, on calls like this, where I get quiet and actually listen. Not just to what a client says they want, but to the line they almost skip, the thing they light up about, the part they assume does not matter.

That part almost always matters most. It is usually the heart of the whole brand.

Listening is not a nice extra for me. It is the skill. It is why my clients feel understood, and it is why their websites end up sounding like them and not like everyone else.

And here is what that means for you. You deserve a designer who actually hears you, not one who hands you a template and hopes it fits. That is where every project with me begins, with listening.

So tell me, when was the last time you felt truly heard in your business? Drop it below.

Site Spotlight ✨ Agricola Street Books

Agricola Street Books is an independent used bookstore on Agricola Street here in Halifax, and it is genuinely one of the most beautiful spaces in the city. Custom wooden shelves, antique stained glass, natural light pouring in, and a bright little children's room. But what moved me most was how woven into the community they are. Around 90 percent of their books come from a local buyback program, and they partner with organizations like Hope for Wildlife and Feed Nova Scotia. This is a store with a heart.

So that is exactly what we built the website around. Strategy first, we led with the feeling of walking in and the values behind it, so the site does not just list books, it invites you into the space. Beauty and belonging, on and offline.

Come wander: www.agricolastreetbooks.com

What a pleasure to have worked on this one. If your space is this special in person, your website should make people feel it before they ever walk through the door.
