Here are a few things that came out of the kiln this week. Forget-me-nots in porcelain cups. Spring is rebirth, but loss is still part of that cycle, and these are one of my favourite flowers whose name reminds us of the beauty in grief, that love is inevitably tied to. I especially enjoy the way these reappear in different places on the property every year, sometimes in great masses, other times just one or two, here and there, equally fragile as they are persistent, so much like our memories. Some ramen bowls and mugs, carved, and the first leaf mugs of this year, sage. Soap dispensers and yarn bowls. And another round of seal dishes, I often wish I was a seal so that I could stay in that lovely cold ocean forever. (Today's swim was 25 minutes at 8⁰C in the water). I'll have these and lots more with me tomorrow (Saturday 8-1) at the πŸ¦πŸ’« See you there.

A random mid-week post. I've posted these two photos in previous collections but wanted to highlight this relatively new design, as much for my own records. Oil bottles, aka oil cruets. This design is so very functional, easy to hold, and feels comfortable and secure in your hand. I've also figured out a very tight fit with the dispenser. I'm quite pleased with these. Also, this week in the studio... doing some things with wildflowers πŸ’«

Once upon a time... I was a single mother, not shared or co-anything, no weekends away, no child support, just a high school dropout single mother. We survived, we thrived, we are happy, we are strong, we are part of many communities, we contribute to society in a multitude of ways, we are proud of where we came from. We are who we are because of this past. It took many years to move past the shame and to find stability, emotional as well as material. We had a lot of help along the way. It is hard but it is possible. That's my mother's day story. Fin.

A few things that came out of the kiln this morning. Matcha bowls. Cups - for tea, for coffee, for whatever you want to put in them. Variety of sizes, I didn't weigh or try to match them. These ones really want to be held. A set of bowls for an order. Yes I am up early, and yes I did get quite wet photographing these for you. I have another kiln cooling, and third one firing today. πŸ”₯ I'll have these and lots more available this weekend (Saturday 8-1) at the . See you there.

I planted parsnips last year with seed from Yonder Hill Farm , but by October they were still wee little guys. So I covered them well with straw and left them to overwinter. Yesterday we harvested them, and they were big and plentiful and so sweet! They made it through a brutally hot and dry summer, as well as a really cold, harsh winter here on the coast. We have been following 's no dig methods, making our own compost, and watering minimally with lake water. As we learn more every year, our garden has slowly but surely been filled with more perennials, and plants that are highly productive and tolerant in our climate. Locally produced seed and plants definitely make a difference. Happy gardening!

Trimming. After each piece has dried for a period of time - I let them dry at least overnight, although denser pieces like plates require a few days - I trim down the bottoms of each. This process is similar to throwing, but uses cutting tools and is dry. I prefer to trim freely on the wheelhead - just a bit of water on the bat, or some wads of clay for taller pieces. Which means that centering- that tapping on one side thing that I'm doing to keep the piece centered on the wheel - is ongoing. I like centering and re-centering. It's good practice and meditative. It's a reminder that all things in life are constantly in motion, and that nothing real or authentic is truly ever centered, because that would mean that the spirit of that object is no longer there. It's also part of the continuous dialogue I like to have with each piece as I work.
