This is a glass-on-glass installation. I used Bohle 2-part silicone. It’s optically clear and very thick, providing a nice jelly cushion between layers. This adhesive was developed for NASA and for 10 years now has stood up to every kind of weather Nova Scotia threw at it! Pictured are the local Slaunwhite’s jellybean boats!

The sister monument commemorating the rescuers of victims of the 1873 SSAtlantic wreck is in the picturesque village of Upper Prospect. The shipwreck could be seen from Coolens Hill, and villagers launched out at daybreak to assist. Designed by Lynette Richards, carved by Avi Miller

Lower Prospect Nova Scotia 2023. The design and placement of this monument fulfilled a decade-long commitment I made to myself, my Irish ancestors, and the descendants of the SSA rescuers (who had been disenfranchised from their own heroic history). I was angered that there was no monument here where the rescue actually happened, and recognized it as another example of historic discrimination. This monument, and its sister in Upper Prospect, honour the (largely) Irish Catholic villagers who risked all to help others. Designed by Lynette Richards, carved by Avi Miller
