Cavan Monaghan is the kind of place that feels proudly “country,” but still connected.
It sits in Peterborough County, just southwest of Peterborough, with rolling farmland, small hamlets, and Millbrook as the main hub — the kind of community where people wave, neighbours know each other, and storms don’t wait for a convenient time.
✅️ A quick snapshot of Cavan Monaghan
Population: 10,016 (2021 Census).
Four real seasons: Winters here are the real deal, and summers can get warm and humid. Climate averages around the area show January highs around 27°F (-3°C) and July highs around 80°F (27°C), with steady precipitation through the year.
✅️ Where the name comes from
The township’s name is a nod to its roots. “Cavan” and “Monaghan” were named after County Cavan and County Monaghan in Ireland, reflecting the Irish settlers who helped shape the area in the early days.
✅️ A few historical notes (the “you can feel it” history)
The original townships were surveyed in 1817 (early settlement era in Ontario).
Millbrook’s story goes back to 1816, when the first sawmill was built — and it grew into a busy little place over time.
In 1875, Millbrook had a major event locals still talk about — “The Great Fire” that destroyed much of the downtown core and pushed the community to rebuild.
The modern township took shape on January 1, 1998, when the areas were amalgamated (and later shortened/renamed to Cavan Monaghan).
🔧 Our latest installation in Cavan Monaghan
We recently completed a new standby generator installation here, and it felt like a perfect match for the area. In places with open roads, bigger properties, and weather that can turn quickly, backup power isn’t just a “nice upgrade” — it’s the comfort of knowing your home stays steady when the grid doesn’t.
No scrambling for flashlights.
No worrying about heat, sump pumps, freezers, Wi-Fi, or the basics.
Just a home that keeps running.
Big thanks to the homeowner in Cavan Monaghan for trusting Platinum with the job 🙌
