Protecting Innocence
After my recent retirement from a 34-year policing career my passion continues as I search for opportunities to teach and empower youth, families, and youth-based organizations about protecting the innocence of kids. There is a false sense of security provided in the Police Reference Check procedure (Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector) and all too often our youth-based organizations believe they are safe from predators. For over 10 years I investigated crimes involving s*xual assaults and abuse involving children including s*xual predators, serial s*x offenders, intrafamilial relatives, and other persons known to the victim. I’ve seen the emotional damage suffered by victims of these heinous crimes. I’ve learned through my experiences working in the Special Victims Unit how children and other vulnerable people are preyed upon, the warning signs, and how proper support in the aftershock is significant for psychological healing of a victim. I am caring and compassionate of others, especially the vulnerable as I feel a sustained desire for continuing to serve and protect by supporting, counseling, training and empowering families and youth-based organizations; teaching strategies that build a safe environment.
