The Okanagan Bouldering Society

The Okanagan Bouldering Society was formed in 2015 with the express purpose of promoting bouldering in the Okanagan valley and promote area development in an environmentally conscious and socially responsible manner. We are dedicated to advocating for the continued access to local bouldering areas and building beneficial relationships with the various private and public land owner and management groups. The OBS can be counted on to act in the best Interests of the Okanagan bouldering community and also to promote the ethical and responsible use of all Okanagan bouldering areas including encouraging limited access to sensitive areas. The Okanagan Valley has quickly become the second largest developed bouldering area in Canada and has become a world class destination in its own right. Lets all do our part to respect it and maintain and protect it so we can continue to enjoy the absolutely spectacular bouldering that we have here.

🪨 ROCK THE BLOCKS 12 RECAP 🪨

We just wanted to say a massive thank you to those of you who were able to make it out this weekend and support us. There was a fantastic turnout for this 12th edition of Rock the Blocs and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of everyone who comes and supports.

Keep an eye on our website in the coming days. We will update it with a complete summary and photos from the event.

We just wanted to let you know about a few closing details before we take a well-needed break.

T-SHIRTS 👕
This year there was significantly more demand for tshirts than we had foreseen. We were psyched to see so many of you wanting to rep Rock the Blocs. Due to the high demand we are looking into doing another round of shirts. If you already put your name down at the event then we will reach out, otherwise let us know you are interested by email/instagram.

POST-EVENT SURVEY 📝
We are working on getting a survey out to get feedback for future years. We will be sending the link out through email to all those who pre-registered, and it will be linked in our bio as well. If you have ideas/feedback, keep an eye out for that and please let us know!

📣 ROCK THE BLOCS IS THIS SATURDAY! 📣

We recently sent out an email with information about the weekend (make sure you register with the link in our bio to stay up to date), but a summary is included below.

PARKING 🚗
Event parking will be available at the Boulderfields recreation site. PARKING IS NOT PERMITTED ON THE KVR. If you are coming up as a group, please try and carpool where possible. For safety we must ensure there is access for emergency vehicles if required.

If you travel in a van or vehicle that is going to stay for the entire weekend, please park closely together. This will make our parking coordination job much easier on Saturday morning. Don’t be offended if we ask you to move your vehicle to create more room.

RAFFLE TICKETS & PRIZING 🎟️
Rock the Blocs is completely free to attend but the raffle is our main fundraiser for OBS. While we are able to accept card payments, bringing cash is much quicker and more convenient. Tickets will be priced at 1 for $2, or 3 for $5. Please note that raffle participants must be aged 19 or older.

KAYA APP 📲
If you plan on using Kaya then you can already join the event in the app to gain FREE ACCESS to the guide. Simply find the “Rock the Blocs 2026” challenge and click “Join”. You should then be able to download the guide from Wednesday the 16th. Please make sure to download the guide before heading up to the Boulderfields due to limited service.

T-SHIRTS 👕
We also have limited edition locally made t-shirts for sale. These are available to pre-order and will cost $30. If you would like a shirt, please let us know by email or on Instagram. Limited quantities and sizes are available.

VOLUNTEERS ⛑️
If you are interested in volunteering (particularly as a first aider), please reach out to us so we can add you to the team! Thanks to those that have already signed up.

📣 10 DAYS TO GO!!! 📣

If you haven’t registered for Rock the Blocs, sign up on our website (link in bio)! This way you can receive email updates and information about the event, and it helps us to get a preview of numbers. If you’ve already registered, keep an eye on your emails for the information and schedule coming soon!

If you would like to be a first aid or general volunteer, there’s an option on the registration form (don’t worry, you can still compete as well!). Emails will be sent out shortly to our volunteers to give them a heads up on what the day will look like.

In the meantime, make sure you invite your friends and get psyched for another great year! Shoot us a dm if you have any questions, and we’re looking forward to seeing you all up there!

We are one month out from Rock the Blocs!!! 🪨

Hopefully everyone’s getting excited for another year of this great event! If you haven’t already, register on our website (link in bio), as it helps us plan for parking & camping logistics and speeds up the registration process day of.

Also, if you want to volunteer in some capacity, we could still use some help with parking, set-up, and first aid! When you fill out the registration, let us know if you’re interested.

Just under two months to go until Rock the Blocs 12! 🪨

As the sun’s beating down this summer, hopefully everyone’s excited for Sendtember, and with that comes Rock the Blocs! Join us on Sept 19&20 at the Boulderfields for another year of great boulders, fun challenges, and awesome raffle prizes donated by our many amazing sponsors! The event is free to attend and everyone is welcome, if you’re planning on coming, we’d love for you to sign up on our website (link in bio) so we can get a rough estimate of numbers and parking logistics. Also, if you are interested in volunteering in some capacity, we are always looking for people to help out with parking, raffle sales, and first aid.

We’re excited to announce the 12th annual Rock the Blocs bouldering festival! This year the event will be held on September 19 & 20th, be sure to save the date and share the news with your friends!

⛏️ Trail Day Recap 🪏

A big thank you to all the volunteers who came out yesterday and worked so hard to help sustain and improve the playground we all enjoy at the Boulderfields! Thanks to the 30+ people who attended, we were able to accomplish a ton!

We had crews working in the East Fields, clearing and improving trails so it’s easier to navigate to farther out areas like Roof On Fire, Magnet Man, Burning Man, and more. We also had a large crew cleaning up the parking lot, weeding, picking up garbage, sanitizing the outhouses (thanks to our President, Robson, for stepping up on that one), and restoring the campsites. There was even a group working on the drop down road, removing problem rocks and flattening out some of the larger holes. Also, an extra big thanks and props to for whipping up a ton of pizzas for everyone who worked up an appetite, you guys are awesome and your pizza was 5 ⭐️!!!

OBS Information Sessions

Hey everyone! We are starting to wake up from hibernation as the Okanagan climbing season gets closer. Every year we see more and more people eager to take their new found climbing skills outdoors. Come say hey at one of our up and coming information booths. We will tell you all about who we are, access, membership perks, events, and upcoming trail days. Plus some recommendations about our favourite boulders.

First ones are this week at gneiss.
