We talk a lot about supply chains and farm viability, but at the heart of every successful farm is its people. Today, a critical part of our Nova Scotia farm family, the Jamaican team members who are the backbone of our harvest season, are facing a terrible crisis.

Hurricane Melissa has devastated their homes and families in Jamaica.

TapRoot Farms, Noggins Corner Farm, and Spurr Brothers Farm have shared heartbreaking reports. Their team members are hearing of lost homes, washed-away yam crops (their families' primary livelihood), and a desperate need for basic supplies.

A joint GoFundMe has been established to send funds directly to the teams at these three farms. This money will go straight to their families for the absolute essentials: roofing, clean water, food, and building supplies.

Our province and agricultural community is strong and interconnected. This is a moment to prove it. Please join me in supporting these vital partners who feed our communities.

A new funding stream is now open — and it will pay up to $200,000 toward season-extension, storage, cooling or irrigation projects on your farm.

Key details at a glance
• Coverage: Up to 70 % of project costs based on farm income
• Intake window: June 16 – July 14 (work on-farm from Apr 1 – Dec 31, 2025)
• Who qualifies: NS-based producers earning $10K+ annually and registered to farm
