A quick heads up as we head into the long weekend.

The Blackstone office will be closed Monday, September 7 for Labour Day, and we'll be back at our desks Tuesday, September 8.

If you need product before the weekend, get your order in by 12 PM ET this Friday, September 4. Anything that comes in after that will ship out Tuesday morning.

The online store never closes, so you can place an order any time over the weekend at https://na3.hubs.ly/y0BTvd0 and we'll take care of it first thing Tuesday.

Questions before Friday? Reach us at 1-800-405-3433 or [email protected].

Thanks to hockey_palace (Instagram) for this one. He's just put a second Blackstone holder on the bench, and what he says in the video means more to us than the order does.

Full English translation:

"Hey gang, we have another package today. Because we ordered a second skate holder from Blackstone Hockey. Blackstone Sports is a skate sharpening company that was founded in Ontario in 1999.

I ordered a second skate holder to make my job easier during my skate sharpenings. And slowly but surely, we are gearing up with Blackstone, because we trust their company. That's really it.

So now, I'm going to set it up so that it's perfectly aligned with my grinding wheel number 1. My holder is adjusted perfectly straight to ensure that your blades are perfectly straight. So I put my holder right here.

If you get sharpenings between 3/8 and 5/8, this is going to be my new holder that you'll be testing out. And slowly but surely, maybe in the coming months, you'll see that the equipment in the back is going to change over to Blackstone.

So no matter what type of repair you want to do on your skates, it will be done with this company, to ensure the repairs will live up to your expectations. Because I certainly have been satisfied with them. Their equipment is really top-notch."

About the holder he's using:
The U-12 Tri-Lie has three detent adjusting k***s, giving a three-point axis, and it's built for hockey skates with a blade longer than 6.5". Blades shorter than 6.5" and most goalie skates take the U-12-U Tall Tri-Lie instead.

It sits on the tabletop of a manual machine — ours and other brands'. That's worth saying plainly, because a holder is usually the first Blackstone piece to land in a shop that runs someone else's bench, and it doesn't ask anyone to change their machine to find out whether they like the clamp.

Which is exactly what's happening at Hockey Palace, one piece at a time. Merci, et bonne saison.

Every shop has the job that gets pushed to next week.

For a lot of sharpeners, it's the exhaust filter.
It's easy to put off, because nothing dramatic happens when a filter loads up. There's no alarm and no failure. Extraction just gets quietly less effective, week over week, until the dust on the bench and the haze in the air become a normal you stopped noticing.

The start of the season is the right time to fix that. The machine hasn't taken its hours yet, the bench is as clean as it'll be all year, and a fresh filter now means full extraction through every rush weekend, every tournament, and every late night before a road trip.

We carry filters across our exhaust systems, from older builds through Cyclone 2.0. Which one you need comes down to your machine and setup, and the fastest way to get it right is to ask.

Call 1-800-405-3433 or email [email protected] and we'll confirm the right filter for your machine.

The machine's ready. Is the shelf behind it?

Every year the same thing happens: tryouts land, the rush hits, and somebody's digging through a drawer looking for a hone that isn't there. A little restocking now saves a lot of scrambling later.

Here's the manual-sharpening checklist worth running before the season starts. Most of it isn't brand-specific. These are consumables that work on any manual setup:

Grinding wheels. Orange for aggressive free cutting on any skate. Ruby, multi-grit for stainless. Black Walnut for rental volume and edge retention. Cobalt Blue for stainless and figure blades. Yellow. Our 8" wheels are compatible with any manual machine's finishing head, including other brands' machines — worth knowing no matter what you're running.

Hand hones. Dark tear drop with oil, light tear drop, rubber cube for polish. 220 grit rectangles in both sizes. Black Magic for black steel, and the extra-fine Arkansas natural stone for the finest finish in the lineup. All of them finish a blade off any sharpener.

Fine Shine and daubers. Coats the grits for a refined grind, cooler cutting and a brighter micron polish. Works across the whole wheel lineup. Daubers wear out — grab spares.

Tef Top Puck. Tabletop treatment that keeps the holder gliding clean through the pass. Goes on any manual machine's tabletop.

Figure skate pick guards. They mount to the blade at the pick rather than to the machine, so they work on any manual setup.

Single-point diamonds. Running a single-point head? Our Sharp and Super Sharp diamonds fit any manual machine set up for single point, whoever built it. Worth knowing if you've been sourcing them through your machine's manufacturer.

And if you're on a Blackstone, this is the season to look at the dressing side too: FBV® and ROH spinners, A-TRAP® goalie sets, drag cap with its snap ring, thrust washer and wave washer, drag cap post, the single-point quill itself, cross grind wheels and dresser wheel, drive belts, exhaust filters and spare fuses. Make sure everything is in good condition before dressing.

Walk the shelf, write down what's low, get the order in. Ordering's easier in August than it is in October.

Wet gear slows everyone down, and every equipment manager knows the scramble of drying a full bench between periods, practices, and road trips.

The D-18 Glove Dryer handles it. Engineered internals push double the airflow through 18 heavy-duty stainless steel hoses, drying nine pairs of gloves or skates at once at a consistent temperature that evaporates moisture without compromising the equipment. Air-only or heated, your choice.

And it's built to move: heavy-duty wheels for any floor surface and a telescopic handle for control between locker rooms and rinks. It runs on standard 110V / 15A. No adapters, no modifications. Plug in wherever the game takes you.

From house league to the pro level, dry gear is ready gear.

Every skater knows the tradeoff: dig in for more bite, and you give up glide. That's how a standard Radius of Hollow works: one arc doing two jobs.

FBV® was built differently from the start. The flat base and the V edges are two independently engineered variables, not one compromise. Glide comes from the flat. Bite comes from the V. Neither one is borrowing from the other.

Heading into pre-season, that's a conversation worth having before puck drop. Ask your local skate tech or equipment manager about FBV®.

Every piece of goalie gear soaks up water during a game — pads, gloves, mask liner, all of it. That extra weight doesn't just sit there. Wet gear can weigh 5–10 lbs more than dry gear, and moisture alone can add 10–25% to what a goalie is carrying by the time they're back on the ice.

The D-0G is built to solve that between periods, not just overnight. Five pillars handle the full kit — gloves, pads, and mask — at the same time, so nothing gets left half-dry while something else finishes.

It's available in two builds depending on what your rink needs: a 110V option running 85°F–95°F, or a 220V option pushing 95°F–100°F for faster turnaround. At 71" tall, 23.25" wide, and 14.5" deep, it's sized to fit into the equipment room you already have.

Full Kit. Fully Dried. Every Period.

A close up of The D-18, a glove dryer built with 18 hoses, and it's fully portable: wheels to roll it anywhere, 110V so it plugs in without a dedicated outlet.

For equipment managers running full locker rooms, that means dry gear on your schedule, not your electrical setup's. Send us a message to learn more.

You might've seen it already — the D-0G Goalie Dryer stopped teams in their tracks at PHATS/SPHEM, and more than one asked about bringing in extra units for their room.
Full kit. One cycle. Under 18 minutes.

Summer isn't downtime. It's decision time.

Winter doesn't leave room to think. Orders pile up, staff turn over, and there's no time for a demo, let alone a real evaluation. Right now, while things are quieter, is when to actually look at whether automated sharpening, profiling, or other workflow tools make sense for your shop or rink.

Talk to us about what automation could mean for your workflow and your ROI — before the season makes the decision for you.
