10 Kitchener Towing Questions We Get Asked All the Time
When you need a tow, you usually have more questions than just “How much does it cost?” Here are 10 of the most important things Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge drivers should know before calling a tow truck!
1. How fast can a tow truck reach me?
Most local calls fall within a 15 to 30 minute window when traffic and road conditions are moving normally. Weather, highway incidents and winter conditions can extend that time, so we’ll keep you informed when you call.
2. What information should I give the dispatcher?
Your exact location, vehicle make and model, what happened, whether the vehicle rolls and steers, and your destination are the most important details. Also mention AWD, EVs, motorcycles, seized wheels or parkade clearance issues because those details can determine which truck we send.
3. Do I need a membership like CAA?
No. You can contact us directly for towing and roadside assistance without a membership. If you do have CAA, insurance coverage or another roadside plan, check whether they will cover the service and whether you can choose your towing provider.
4. How much does a tow cost in Kitchener?
Our published city-limit rates are $120 for wheel-lift towing and $160 for flatbed towing, plus applicable tax, within Kitchener, Waterloo or Cambridge. Longer-distance towing is calculated separately.
5. How much does long-distance towing cost?
The first 10 kilometres are included, followed by a published rate of $4 per kilometre. The vehicle type, towing method, pickup location and destination can affect the final quote.
6. When do I need a flatbed instead of a wheel-lift?
Flatbeds are often the right choice for AWD vehicles, damaged vehicles, lowered cars, luxury vehicles, EVs, vehicles with drivetrain problems or vehicles with a seized wheel. The goal is to use the towing method that avoids creating additional damage.
7. Can you help if I don't actually need a tow?
Yes. Some roadside problems can be solved without moving the vehicle. We handle battery boosts, flat tires, fuel delivery and vehicle lockouts, among other roadside services. If the problem can safely be fixed where you are, there's no reason to tow the vehicle unnecessarily.
8. What should I do while waiting for the tow truck?
Put your hazards on and get yourself and passengers somewhere safe whenever possible. On a highway, stay away from live traffic and use the shoulder or guardrail area when it is safe to do so. Let us know if the vehicle is leaking, has a seized wheel, is an EV or cannot be shifted into neutral.
9. Can you tow a vehicle that is stuck in Park?
Yes. A vehicle stuck in Park can still be recovered. In many situations, a flatbed is the cleanest solution because the vehicle can be winched onto the deck without relying on the transmission to move.
10. Do you provide towing 24/7?
Yes. Tow Truck Kitchener operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights, weekends and holidays. Breakdowns don't wait for business hours, so neither do we.
