Happy Earth Day 🌎🌿
I’ve wanted to try a 100% native plant container garden for a while. Here, we have a little coastal Douglas-fir meadow, with woolly sunflower, nodding onion, Roemer’s fescue, pearly everlasting, both yellow and blue sisyrinchium, broad-leaved stonecrop, and a Douglas-fir seedling that was a “weed” in another garden. I’m excited to share what this looks like in a few months!🌼🌾

We can support nature and our beautiful Earth in so many ways - even if you don’t have a yard, container gardens are a fun and creative way to bring some biodiversity and beauty to your balcony or outdoor space 🪴🌷

My curiosity was rewarded today! Last November I left some Sedum stems as an experiment to see if any insects would overwinter inside- and it worked!

From what I learned online, these are Small Carpenter Bees (Ceratina sp.), generalist pollinators that are important insects to support in our gardens. They nest and overwinter inside stems such as raspberry canes … and our proof - Sedum stems too!

🐝💛So happy to share back on the outcome of my little experiment, and hopefully inspire more ecological gardeners and gardens… for the wellbeing of people, and nature 🌱🌼
