Yalda (Shab-e Yalda) is an ancient Persian tradition celebrating the longest night of the year — the winter solstice.

Traditionally, families and friends gather to share pomegranates, watermelon, nuts, sweets, poetry, stories, and laughter. ❤️

One of the most beautiful aspects of Yalda is its symbolism: the longest night eventually gives way to longer days, reminding us of hope, light, and new beginnings.

It’s a celebration of culture, connection, and togetherness — and a tradition worth sharing with others.

After the rain… came the sunshine!

The morning brought rain and a soggy setup, but the skies eventually cleared, the sun came out, and the Fall Multi Market came to life! 🍂❤️

Today I returned to Covent Garden Market, but this time I was wearing a very different hat.

A few days ago, I was there as the organizer of London Fanfare’s Fall Multicultural Market — surrounded by vendors, music, food, laughter and celebration.

Today, I was there as part of the London Centre of Hope community for Soup and Bread to Remember.

The contrast was not lost on me.

Today was quieter. A time to stop, reflect and remember the people who have lost their lives while experiencing homelessness.

As the names were spoken, I kept thinking about the people behind those names — their stories, their families, their friendships, their hopes and the lives they lived.

They were so much more than the circumstances that brought them to the streets.

I’m grateful I had the opportunity to be there today, to listen, to remember, and to honour them.

Sometimes, wearing a different hat gives you a very different perspective. ❤️
