Our apprentice might not be quite this cute, but he’s much more useful. He’s looking forward to getting the vapour barrier finished in his workshop and then putting in some heat and getting started on refurbishing some washing machines that will be for sale in the Spring.

It’s been a busy month and the weather isn’t helping. Snow days mean that sometimes we have to stay off the roads for safety. But when we can, you’ll see us out and about and looking snazzy with our new decals from Cat’s Meow on the work van.

It’s a New Year and we are getting caught up as deliveries of parts continue to trickle in. It’s hard to go on vacation for a week as a small business but we definitely needed it. We’re back, and you have permission to break things now. 🤣 Here’s to a great 2026!

We’re doing our best to stay on top of parts orders and use the most reliable couriers we can, trust me, we want your parts to arrive quickly too! In the meantime we stay busy and we appreciate your understanding and patience. 🫶🏻 In the next few weeks you’ll see a new look to the work vehicles so when Steph pulls in the driveway you’ll know who it is at a glance. And we will be closed on Remembrance Day to respect the sacrifices of those who have served and continue to serve, including several of our children.

Happy 103rd Birthday to Gus! It’s been a challenging year for many people in Nova Scotia. But we rallied together as communities to support eachother in our gardens, to help support firefighters battling the wildfires in my county, and through many other suppers, giveaways and fundraisers. So glad to be part of this community. Our new software is almost complete, Steph has been working long hours to write and adapt the old program that we used in BC so now it should streamline and smooth out the communication errors and booking. Online appointment booking is still an excellent self-serve option and I can always add you to the cancellation list if you’d like.

Our apologies. Our internet has been really fritzy for a couple of days and has been completely down since yesterday. This also means we can’t get phone calls reliably since we have eastlink phone. Spring is here (you’d never know from the snow) and it’s time to check the screens on your taps and appliances. Have you noticed things running slower or taking longer to fill? It could simply be sand or debris built up on the screens on your faucets and washing machine hoses. Just take the screen washer out, give it a scrub with an old toothbrush, and pop it back in. Easy! It’s also a good time to run a dishwasher, oven and washing machine clean cycle.
In addition to helping make some decisions for our brother who is palliative, one of our daughters is coming to visit from Switzerland with her family. Consequently Steph will be taking a few days off to go see them in BC and have a visit with other family out on the Island. It’s just for a few days and you’ll hardly notice Steph is gone. We’re trying to get as much wrapped up ahead of time as possible and then we will be back at it 100% as soon as Steph is home.

Will a trade war affect appliance repair customers? Well, we’re hoping not. It’s too early to say if parts prices will rise significantly but it should be okay. We source the majority of our parts from a 🇨🇦Canadian distributor called Reliable Parts based in Coquitlam BC, and we have done so for nearly 50 years. Some of the parts are going to come from Korea, Japan, China, Mexico, and the US so we will see how that goes but apart from a small rise in shipping costs we have not seen any immediate increases. We have no desire to raise prices for parts, and our flat-rate labour charges are still the same as they were 20 years ago. We work from home so that we can keep our overhead low and pass the savings along to our customers. Our warranty and commercial customers remain unaffected except for slow shipping caused by weather. Let’s hope that the whole situation calms down soon and it’s one less thing for Canadians to worry about.
