The Power of Three 🤍🏔️

After an emotional few days in Medicine Hat, honouring our mom, sharing memories, scattering her ashes and attending to her final wishes, it was time for a little healing of our own.

Kim and I escaped to beautiful Canmore in the Rocky Mountains for some much-needed sister time at Everwild Spa. A chance to breathe, relax, laugh, reflect and simply enjoy being together.

And how fitting that we find ourselves surrounded by the magnificent Three Sisters mountains.

Two sisters here, one bonus sister missing… but the power of three is never far away. 🤍

Sometimes the best therapy is laughter, mountain air, warm waters and the comfort of a sister who understands without needing words.

A little rest, a little renewal and a whole lot of sisterly LOVE. 💕

Three sisters. One shared history. A lifetime of memories.

This weekend brought us together in Medicine Hat to say our final goodbye to our mom.

We laughed, we cried, we reminisced, and together, we scattered her ashes beneath the beautiful autumn trees. 🍂

Grief is different for each of us, and our journeys haven’t always been easy. But in these moments, we found comfort in simply being together.

Among the falling leaves, there were tears, laughter, hugs and even a little JOY.

Today is an extra special day! After 21 long days of mandatory quarantine following our African adventure, we’re finally FREE! 🥂

These past weeks have been an emotional roller coaster, filled with extraordinary memories, unexpected challenges and heartbreaking loss. Through it all, I’ve been reminded just how precious family, freedom and the little moments of JOY truly are. 🤍

And amongst the sadness, comes something wonderful to celebrate!

🍁 Finding Beauty Along the Journey… 🌸

As we climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, I found myself drawn to the beautiful wildflowers growing along the most unexpected paths.

Little reminders that even the most challenging journeys hold moments of extraordinary beauty.

This Thanksgiving feels different.

Our hearts are overflowing with gratitude for the incredible African adventure we shared, the wonderful people we met and the memories we will treasure forever.

But our hearts are also heavy.

Since returning home September 24, we’ve been living in isolation, separated from the people we love most. We’ve missed precious moments with our children and grandchildren, and heartbreakingly, I’ve been unable to be with my sisters as we grieve the loss of our mother.

Although we’ve remained healthy throughout, these weeks have been emotionally exhausting.

Yet through it all, love has found its way to our doorstep. Phone calls, video chats, thoughtful care packages and countless gestures of kindness have reminded us how blessed we truly are.

Just like those little wildflowers along the mountain trails, beauty and love have continued to bloom, even through the difficult moments.

As we approach the end of isolation, we look forward to the simplest and most precious gifts of all — warm hugs, family gatherings, shared laughter and being together again.

This Thanksgiving, we’re reminded that gratitude isn’t about life being perfect.

It’s about finding beauty, even when the journey is difficult.

Don’t you just LOVE a good BEFORE & AFTER? 🤍 Especially when you can’t visit the job site due to quarantine?! That’s what I call great teamwork!

From pantry chaos to pantry calm!
From my home office, I coordinated the trades and details virtually 😂 Love the “Quarantine Reminder” from my clients to reassure me that all was going beautifully & absolutely NO reason to break quarantine to check on installation! 😉👍

A huge thank you to the amazing team at Lorne Kitchens for bringing it all together beautifully.

Great design + great trades = a pretty fabulous transformation! ✨

A little bright spot in what has been a very emotional week. ❤️

Although I wasn’t able to attend this year’s DDA Awards Gala, I’m incredibly honoured to have one of my recent projects recognized with a Bronze Award in the Powder Room category by the Decorators & Designers Association of Canada.

Every project tells a story, and it is always such an honour when the creativity, details and thought behind a space are recognized by our industry peers.

Very grateful for this recognition—and for the beautiful flowers and award that arrived in my absence.

After an absolutely incredible African adventure — filled with memories we will treasure forever — we’ve arrived back in Canada.

Our homecoming has come with one unexpected twist… we’ve been placed under a 21-day quarantine following our time in Uganda.

While that means I won’t be heading out to job sites, showrooms or in-person meetings for the moment, Katherine Joy Interiors is very much open!

I’ll be working from my home office and am available by phone, email and virtual meetings to keep projects moving, answer questions and stay connected with my wonderful clients and trades.

For now, my commute is simply a few steps to my office. 😊

We’re grateful to be home, grateful for the extraordinary journey we’ve just experienced, and looking forward to getting back to creating beautiful spaces — even if, temporarily, it’s all happening from behind my computer screen.

Back home. Back to work. And, as always, designing with JOY. ❤️

There are moments you photograph… and then there are moments you simply carry with you forever. 🦍❤️

Deep in the Bwindi Mountains, we had the incredible privilege of spending time with mountain gorillas—and somehow, the experience became even more magical than we could have imagined.

Two gorilla families had come together, giving us the opportunity to witness two magnificent silverbacks, several moms and their babies… playing, climbing and swinging through the trees right in front of us.

And then came the moments we’ll never forget.

One of the moms gently reached for my leg and used it to help pull herself up the path. OMG! I don’t have a photograph of it, but I can still feel that gentle touch—and I know that memory will stay with me forever.

Then a curious little baby wandered over to Rick and decided his shoe looked like the perfect thing to play with! 🥰

To be welcomed into their world, even for such a short time, was humbling, emotional and absolutely unforgettable.

After climbing Kilimanjaro, trekking with chimpanzees and travelling through the African savanna, ending our adventure here with these beautiful mountain gorillas felt like the most extraordinary final chapter.

Our hearts are full.

Africa, you have given us memories of a lifetime. We leave incredibly grateful, forever changed, and filled with JOY. ❤️🌍🦍

When the whole family comes to the water… 🐘💦

Another magical moment along the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda. 🇺🇬

We watched this beautiful herd of elephants gather at the water’s edge — drinking, cooling off, playing and staying close together. Seeing the little ones tucked safely among the adults made it even more special.

There’s something extraordinary about watching these magnificent animals simply being — together, in the wild, exactly where they belong.

We came looking for hippos… and were treated to an elephant gathering too! 🦛🐘

Africa continues to leave us completely in awe.
So grateful for every single moment. ❤️🌍
