Apparently creativity involves math. Who knew? šŸ˜‚

The pillow from my August Creative Challenge is moving into its next phase — which means measuring, calculating, second-guessing, measuring again…and eventually trusting myself enough toĀ CUT THE FABRIC.
And I’m loving it.
One of the things the Challenge reminded me is that creativity isn’t really about getting everything right. It’s about being curious enough to wonder,Ā ā€œCould I make that?ā€Ā ā€” and then giving yourself permission to find out.
Progress, not perfection.
Curiosity, not expertise.
Joy, not judgement.
Make the thing. Learn the thing. Mess up the thing. Laugh. Try again.
Because maybe the real reward isn’t the finished pillow at all. Maybe it’s the measuring, choosing, problem-solving, learning — and the simple pleasure of spending time making something with my own two hands.
There is so much joy in simply being a person who creates.
And I’m definitely not finished exploring that idea. šŸ’™

The is over! But creativity never really ends.

I have so many ideas of how to keep creativity at the centre of my life. And I can't wait to share more with you soon.

For now, tell me how you're staying creative these days. Are you crafting something right now? Or practicing a new skill? Are you a beginner or is it something you've done for a long time?

And the results are in!

The Granny Pop Cardigan from Michelle Moore is my first clothing project ever!

Are you a yarn person? What's your favourite thing to make?

How are you expressing your creativity these days? I’d love to know.

I keep thinking about Dolly Parton today — and about the extraordinary power of creativity.

Dolly didn’t just have creativity. She did something with it.

She wrote songs. Told stories. Created an unforgettable style. Built a career entirely her own. Made movies. Built businesses. Created Dollywood and brought jobs and opportunity to the place she came from.

And then she turned all of that success outward.

She created the Imagination Library, inspired by her father’s inability to read, and helped put more than 300 million books into the hands of children around the world.

She supported families devastated by wildfires. Invested in education and her community. She even donated $1 million to research that helped lead to the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

And maybe that’s what moves me most about her.

Creativity was her superpower. But what she chose to do with it was her legacy.

Her creativity made her successful.

Her determination made her powerful.

Her generosity made a difference.

And her kindness and decency made her loved.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about creativity — about what happens when we give it space in our lives and take it seriously. Dolly feels like the ultimate reminder that creativity isn’t frivolous. It can build things. Connect people. Create opportunity. Bring joy. And, in the right hands, change lives.

She was unapologetically, unmistakably herself — and then used what she created to lift other people up.

What a legacy.

In a world where we can be anything…

Be a Dolly. ā¤ļø
