Humming works because it shifts neural focus.

When you hum:

• Your brain prioritizes auditory processing
• You stimulate the vagus nerve
• Your exhale naturally lengthens
• Parasympathetic tone increases

Intrusive thoughts thrive in unregulated states.

Your brain under stress isn’t broken. It’s in survival mode.

Here’s what’s actually happening.

When you’re stressed, the brain prioritises threat and urgency. The amygdala and salience networks become more active, stress hormones like cortisol increase, and attention narrows. Blood flow and energy shift toward systems designed for fast reaction, not reflection.

At the same time, the prefrontal cortex (the part involved in perspective, impulse control, and decision-making) becomes less efficient and less integrated with the rest of the brain.

That’s the “red” brain state.

Reactive. Overloaded. Focused on getting through, not thinking clearly.

Now breathwork, works from the bottom up.

By stimulating the vagus nerve, breathing signals safety to the nervous system. Parasympathetic activity increases. Heart rate begins to settle. Stress chemistry reduces. Communication between emotional and cognitive regions improves.

Brain activity doesn’t increase.

It becomes more organised.

Threat reactivity softens. Internal noise decreases. There’s more space between what happens and how you respond.

That’s the “blue” brain state.

Not passive. Regulated. Integrated.

This is the difference between reacting and responding.

Between emotional hijack and emotional regulation.

Last night stopped me in my tracks.

A room full of powerful, deeply insightful people — and within minutes, the armor started to fall. Not because they were weak… but because they were finally safe enough to put it down.

What surfaced was raw, ancient, inner-child pain carried in silence for decades… and something even deeper — an outpouring of grief for the children in the world who are suffering right now. You could feel hearts breaking open at once for innocence lost, for pain that should never belong to a child.

The children who had to grow up too fast.
The ones who learned to be strong instead of held.
The ones who became everything for everyone… while no one saw them.

Last night, they were seen.
Last night, they were heard.
Last night, grief moved through the room like a wave — not to drown anyone, but to release what was never meant to be carried alone.

You could feel generations of pain… and fierce love… and a quiet promise that the cycle can end here.

There is nothing more powerful than a human being who has met their wounded inner child, felt the grief of the world, and chosen to turn that pain into compassion, protection, and presence.

I will never forget what happened in that room.
