In a time when food security and affordability is a real concern for many of us, our friends at Food First NL are working with individuals and businesses to improve them. We support them and their efforts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Food First NL’s Great Things in Store project takes aim at food availability and affordability in rural communities from a retail perspective. Small food retailers are a core part of how folks access food across rural Newfoundland and Labrador. They know their customers, neighbours, and their communities. When we work to improve food access, we need to include retailers in that work. Selected retailers will work with the organization to co-create initiatives shaped by the needs and feedback of their communities.

Interested retailers can learn more about the project and apply at https://www.foodfirstnl.ca/great-things-in-store, or contact Program Coordinator, Alison James, at [email protected].

Cardboard stacking up? No need to wait for town clean-up! We’ve seen the curbs lately, and that is a lot of boxes. Good news: you don't have to hoard them. Cardboard can actually go out with your regular weekly garbage and recycling!

Here is how to prep it for the curb:

The Blue Bag Method: For smaller amounts, simply fold it up and place it inside your blue recycling bag.

The Bundle Method: Got a massive pile? Flatten the boxes down into a bundle no larger than 20" x 20" x 30", then secure it with twine or tape. No more than 50 lbs!

Just set it out on your normal pickup day, and we’ll handle the rest. Let's keep our towns clean and green!
