For both of us, healing has been found within the pages of our new books, and weโ€™re looking forward to connecting with new faces, sharing our journeys, and celebrating this milestone together.

Join us for our book signing on July 11th from 1:00 PM โ€“ 3:00 PM at the North Bay Public Library. We canโ€™t wait to meet you!

We are also grateful to the North Bay Public Library for welcoming us into their space and providing an opportunity to share our stories with the community. Their support of local authors, lived experiences, and meaningful conversations helps create connections that extend far beyond the pages of a book.

Stories have the power to heal, connect, and inspire, and weโ€™re thankful to everyone who continues to support this journey. We hope to see you there!

Yesterday, I had the privilege of presenting to the IMPACT Team at the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS). I was moved by the compassion, kindness, and genuine commitment this team demonstrated toward learning, engaging in meaningful conversations, and finding ways to better support 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

The discussion was thoughtful and engaging, with participants asking insightful questions and sharing perspectives from across the province. It was inspiring to see the Zoom room filled with people eager to learn, listen, and explore how they can create more inclusive and affirming spaces.

Among the topics we explored were the unique experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals in Northern and Urban communities, and how intersectionality shapes those experiences in different ways. Conversations like these are an important step toward building understanding, strengthening relationships, and creating systems of support that recognize the diverse realities of the people we serve.

Thank you to everyone who attended, participated, and contributed to such a meaningful conversation. Together, we continue to learn, grow, and work toward a more inclusive future for all.

While much of the tourism industry gathers in Toronto this week to talk about website traffic, campaigns, and moments like Heated Rivalry, the quieter and equally important work of destination development continues back home.

This week, Explorers' Edge hosted a DIVA Dialogue at Cedar Canoe Books focused on inclusion, belonging, workforce development, visitor experience, and what it truly means to create welcoming spaces across a region.

I had the privilege of sharing space with some incredible panelists Kate Monk, Autumn D. M. Smith, and Tara from Almaguin Pride who helped guide such honest and meaningful conversations.

Tourism is certainly marketing and storytelling, but it is also built through community rooms, active listening, education, training, and ensuring the lived experience matches the promise visitors are given before they arrive.

Proud of this team for receiving their Canada's 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce Rainbow Registered designation alongside regional partners like The Northridge Inn, and even more proud of the authentic conversations happening throughout the region.
This is destination development too.

More exciting opportunities...

This is the kind of conversation I believe we need more of, real, honest, community-based, and focused on what it actually means to make people feel safe, welcome, respected, and included.

Next Wednesday, May 27, we are hosting Diva Dialogues: Pride Edition at Cedar Canoe Books in Huntsville (Huntsville/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce & Downtown Huntsville BIA) .

We are very lucky to have Seth Compton from Outloud North Bay joining us. Seth and the OUTLoud team do incredible work creating safe and supportive spaces for youth, especially 2SLGBTQ+ youth, and I know this will be a meaningful discussion.

There is also a strong workforce piece to this. If we want to be known as a welcoming destination, that has to start with the people who work here, live here, serve visitors, run businesses, volunteer, and show up for their communities.

Big thanks to Chandler and Cedar Canoe Books for opening the doors to us, and to Tara Ratcliff, Jennifer Montpetit and Kate Hood for helping pull this together.

Come join us if you can. It will be a good night.

Another great opportunity I'm excited about...

Last year, Tourism North Bay (TNB) with the help of local key stakeholders participated in a destination audit assessment.ย  This project was funded by the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario (FedNor), Destination Northern Ontario (DNO) and regional tourism organizations - Tourism Thunder Bay, Tourism Timmins, Tourism North Bay, and Greater Sudbury.

In further partnership with the Canadian Gay & Le***an Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC), the goal of the overall project was to advance 2SLGBTQI+ inclusive tourism in Northern Ontario.

Completed in August 2025, the report is intended to be used by Tourism North Bay as a roadmap to develop a 2SLGBTQI+ tourism framework in North Bay.

As part of our continued commitment and allyship, TNB is working with Seth Compton from Northern Lights Equity Consulting to deliver a training session geared to actively supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ย individuals in their communities, workplaces and service environments.

ABOUT THE SESSION:

This training session equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to actively support 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals in their communities, workplaces, and service environments. Drawing on findings from the recommendations provided through the Destination Assessment and Audit that was completed in 2025 by Tourism North Bay, the session emphasizes the importance of informed, intentional allyship as a tool for reducing discrimination and fostering safer, more inclusive spaces.

* Please note that this invitation is limited to TNB Board of Directors and TNB Partners only at this time.ย  A separate session will be organized and tailored for local attractions, accommodation partners and operators.
