No infrastructure. No capital investment. No extra operational burden. Zero cost to add a new revenue stream.

That's the pitch Gaston Corbella makes for Backpackr, wearable digital ad screens that venues can deploy without spending a dime upfront. Stadiums, convention centers, college campuses already have the staff and the foot traffic. He's just handing them a new way to make money off what they've already got.

The line that sticks: "who says no to that?" Hard to argue.

"If you see a lawyer show up to court in a bathrobe, you will not hear a word they say."

That's from a conversation with Elaine and Fabio of GoBanana β€” and it's the clearest two-sentence explanation of why branding actually matters that I've heard in a while.

Your brand isn't decoration. It's either building trust before you open your mouth, or it's costing you the room before you get a chance to speak.

Full episode is worth your time if you've ever thought "my work speaks for itself." It doesn't. Not at first.

Video calls are the default now. That's the problem.

Garris Booth said something on the podcast that stuck with us: he and our host met in person first, introduced by someone else, at a dinner. Not a Zoom intro. Not a cold DM. An actual room.

His point is simple. Post-COVID we default to video calls because they're easy. But easy isn't the same as effective. In-person still builds trust faster than anything else we've got. You skip a step when you're sitting across from someone.

If you're only "meeting" people through a screen, you might be slowing down relationships you don't even know are stalling.

Your explainer video doesn't need to talk to everyone. It needs to talk to someone.

Garris Booth sees this trap constantly: a company wants one video to hit the CTO, the engineer, and the CEO. So they cram in every feature, every pain point, every audience. What comes out is a mixed bag that serves nobody.

His fix is simple. Every scene has to ladder up to one goal, for one person. If it doesn't, cut it.

Long explainer videos feel efficient. They're not.

Here's the problem: your sales team is sending one video to five different prospects with five different questions. Everyone sits through content meant for someone else just to get to their part.

The fix is dumber than it sounds. Make more videos, make them shorter, make each one answer one thing. Now your sales team just sends the exact clip that matches the question in front of them. No scrubbing, no waiting, no drop-off.

Small shift. Big difference in how usable your content actually is.

Your customer's questions about your product don't change much year to year. That's exactly why they're the best content you're not making.

Companies skip straight to the flashy "About Us" video. Wrong move. The founder of The Booth makes the case for starting in the mid-funnel instead β€” take your actual FAQs, the stuff customers ask on every sales call, and turn those into short videos.

Do that once and you've got something you can send out for years. Sales team uses it on repeat, you learn what's actually confusing people, and the customer gets an answer instead of a pitch.

Full episode has more on why this beats the shiny explainer video every time.

Video content fails before anyone opens a camera.

Garris Booth put it simply: before you script anything, you need to know who you're talking to, where they are in their journey, and what pressure they're actually under. Skip that step and you end up with a video trying to serve five audiences at once β€” which means it serves none of them.

The fix isn't more production value. It's clarity on one person and one goal before you shoot a single frame.
