TRAFFIC ADVISORY ISSUED DURING RBC CANADIAN OPEN

(CALEDON, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is advising residents and visitors of temporary traffic changes in the Alton community during the RBC Canadian Open. Visitors are strongly urged to use the official event app to determine designated parking areas, as asking security personnel for directions disrupt traffic flow and creates unnecessary safety hazards.

From June 10 to 14, 2026, the RBC Canadian Open is taking place at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, 19131 Main Street, in the Town of Caledon. Traffic volume surrounding the tournament is expected to increase daily, which may impact both attendees and all road users

Beech Grove Sideroad is currently closed from Main Street to Porterfield Road until June 17, 2026. Access will be limited to tournament vehicles and shuttle buses only. Pedestrians are not permitted to enter the event. All ride-share vehicles (Uber, Lyft, etc.) must meet at the designated area located at the South Admissions entrance: 19101 Main Street, Caledon. Please refer to website for parking, drop-off, and event access information.

In addition, a temporary speed limit reduction will be in effect on Main Street between Beech Grove Sideroad and Charleston Sideroad. The speed limit on this stretch will be reduced from 80 km/h to 50 km/h for the duration of the event. Drivers are reminded to obey posted signage and exercise extra caution when traveling in the area.

Tournament attendees are encouraged to review parking and transportation details in advance. Full community and parking information is available at www.rbccanadianopen.com/communityinfo and www.rbccanadianopen.com/parking.

The OPP thanks the community for its support and cooperation in ensuring a safe and successful tournament week.

TRAGIC: MURDER, Toronto Police Officer

Deceased Const. Marc Pinizzotto, 43
18 years on TPS, ETF member.

A 43-year-old Toronto police constable has died after being shot after an exchange of gunfire with a suspect in the northwest end of the city Thursday morning, according to Chief Myron Demkiw.
He said the investigation that occurred prior to the shooting was linked to several other shooting incidents around the Greater Toronto Area, including one that took place at the U.S. consulate earlier this year.

The incident took place as police were carrying out a search warrant at a residential building near Tretheway Drive and Black Creek Drive around 5:42 a.m. An "exchange of gunfire" broke out and led to an officer being shot, said Toronto police on social media.
"There's a very heavy sorrow in our community right now," Demkiw said through tears at a news conference outside Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
Const. Marc Pinizzotto had served with the Toronto Police Service for 18 years with the last five years on the emergency task force, he said.

A 19-year-old suspect was still outstanding and Demkiw urged the man to turn himself in. He said the suspect was related to the broader investigation, which saw several search warrants executed today, and not necessarily the shooting with the officer.
Demkiw said one suspect is in hospital receiving emergency care.

SOUTHGATE RESIDENT CHARGED AFTER GOING THROUGH A SHELBURNE RIDE CHECK

(DUFFERIN COUNTY) - The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver following an incident involving a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program in the Town of Shelburne.

On June 9, 2026, shortly after 2:48 a.m., Dufferin OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program on Owen Sound Street at First Avenue when a vehicle entered the checkpoint.

During the interaction with the driver, officers observed that two rear-seat occupants were not wearing seatbelts, and that a small child was seated between them. Further investigation revealed that the driver was bound by conditions not to communicate, directly or indirectly, with one of the passengers in the vehicle.

Rodrigo MATIAS DASILVA, a 21-year-old male from Southgate, has been charged with the following offences:

Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
Passenger - fail to properly wear seat belt
The accused was arrested at the scene and held for a bail hearing in Orangeville, where they will answer to the charges before the Ontario Court of Justice.

Wearing a seatbelt is one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a collision.

The Dufferin OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead if consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, taxi, rideshare service, public transit, or arrange to stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair judgment and reaction time. In a split second, impaired driving can result in life-altering consequences for yourself and others.

Members of the Dufferin OPP remain committed to public safety through proactive and innovative policing in partnership with our communities. If you suspect someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 9-1-1. To report suspected unlawful activity, contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.crimestopperssdm.com.

THREE CHARGED FOLLOWING DANGEROUS OFF-ROAD VEHICLE OPERATION

(MONO, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Central Region Snow Vehicle, All-Terrain Vehicle, and Vessel Enforcement/Education (SAVE) Unit laid several charges over the weekend following a dangerous operation complaint.

On Saturday, June 6, 2026, at approximately 3:40 p.m., Grey Bruce OPP received information regarding three dirt bike operators driving recklessly in Proton Station within OPP West Region jurisdiction. A responding officer observed the individuals operating their vehicles in a dangerous manner, including failing to stop at stop signs and travelling at high speeds past pedestrians on local trail systems.

The riders subsequently entered OPP Central Region jurisdiction, prompting continued efforts by police to locate and address the safety concerns.

Central Region SAVE officers, who were conducting proactive enforcement in a nearby trail system in Mono, stopped the three operators for inspection. It was later determined the individuals were involved in the earlier incident in Proton Station.

As a result of the investigation, all three operators were charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act by the responding Grey Bruce OPP officer.

Further investigation by Central Region SAVE officers resulted in additional charges for each of the three riders:
• Operate off-road vehicle without insurance
• Operate off-road vehicle without a permit
• Operate off-road vehicle without licence plates
• Fail to register off-road vehicle upon becoming new owner
• Engage in prohibited activity on premises (no valid trail pass)

One rider was also charged with failing to properly secure a helmet chin strap.

This incident highlights the ongoing collaboration between OPP detachments and regions, working together to enhance public safety and promote responsible trail use.

The OPP reminds all off-road vehicle users to operate safely, obey all applicable laws, and ensure their vehicles are properly insured, registered, and equipped before using trails. Reckless operation puts both riders and the public at significant risk and will not be tolerated.

Anyone with concerns about unsafe ORV operation is encouraged to contact their local police service.
