What happens when your interests, skills, and career path don’t follow a straight line?
In this interview, Kirsten Matthews (“K”) shares how her career evolved from studying business administration, innovation entrepreneurship, and sustainable development to becoming a virtual dog trainer and behavior consultant.
K talks about always knowing she wanted to run her own business, working with children for over a decade, and discovering that dog training could actually be a career path. She explains how her love of teaching, problem-solving, and animals eventually came together in a profession that combines coaching, education, and behavioral support.
Throughout the conversation, K offers an honest look at entrepreneurship, specialization, career discovery, and the realities of building a career around your strengths and passions, even when the path isn’t obvious at first.
Whether you're considering a career pivot, exploring unconventional career paths, or trying to figure out how your skills translate into meaningful work, this conversation offers thoughtful insights and practical perspective.

In this interview, Ofri Hirsch shares the unexpected career journey that led her from landscape architecture to entrepreneurship in the culinary world.

Ofri studied landscape architecture and moved to the United States in 2004 to attend the Harvard Graduate School of Design. After graduating, the recession disrupted her plans, and she lost her job in the field. That turning point led her to pursue something she had always loved: cooking.

Today, Ofri is the founder of Asheville Mountain Kitchen, where she hosts cooking classes, corporate team-building events, and cooking competitions in Asheville. What started as occasional cooking classes in her home kitchen has grown into a unique business built around food, community, and shared experiences.

In this conversation, Ofri reflects on the pivots that shaped her career, how personal challenges influenced her professional direction, and how following long-standing passions can lead to unexpected opportunities.
