Important Update for Future International Students!🎓 Starting January 1, 2024, there are changes coming to the financial requirements for study permit applicants in Canada.
The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced an adjustment to the cost-of-living financial requirement on December 7, 2023, stating that adequate housing and a smooth transition into Canadian life are crucial for international students.
💸 The cost-of-living requirement, stagnant since the early 2000s at $10,000 for a single applicant, is being updated. From 2024 onwards, applicants need to demonstrate they have $20,635, representing 75% of the Low-Income Cut-Off (LICO). This change acknowledges the rising cost of living and aims to align with Statistics Canada's updates on the minimum income needed for necessities.
He explains that this adjustment seeks to prevent the challenges faced by students arriving in Canada with inadequate funds, ensuring they have enough to cover day-to-day expenses along with their first year of tuition and travel costs.
🌟 Canada remains a top choice for international students due to its excellent educational institutions, inclusive society, and post-graduation opportunities. These changes aim to further support students pursuing their dreams in Canada without financial hardships.
