Blackbird Strategies is saddling up with Burson Canada and a top-notch group of partners at Calgary Stampede 2026.

Stampede has a way of turning colleagues into friends — over a plate of pancakes, not a boardroom table.

See you at the corral!

This week, First Nations in Ontario gather to discuss the priorities, opportunities, and challenges shaping communities across the province.

Blackbird is excited to be on the ground at the 2026 Chiefs of Ontario Annual Chiefs Assembly, with members of our team participating throughout the week.

We look forward to the conversations, connections, and insights that make the Chiefs Assembly one of the most important gatherings of the year.

If you're attending, we'd love to connect.

Access means nothing without trust. Being in the room isn't the same as being trusted in the room.

Too often, representation becomes a box to check rather than a commitment to honour.

This work requires understanding community context, listening before speaking, and recognizing that every community, organization, and issue comes with its own history and priorities.

At Blackbird, we've built our Indigenous affairs practice on earned trust, deep context, and genuine relationships with the communities we serve.

What does good representation look like to you? We'd love to hear your thoughts — and if this resonates, let's talk.

Everyone has an opinion. Few have read past the headline.

This week, Dan and Lisa weigh in on Canada-U.S. trade, Conservative Party challenges, and the politics surrounding FIFA.

Different perspectives. One conversation.

A memorable evening at Yukon Days in Ottawa.

There's no substitute for in-person connection — sharing perspectives, building trust, and strengthening relationships with the people doing important work. We were grateful to spend time with Premier Currie Dixon, Grand Chief Math'ieya Alatini, Mark Wedge, Sean McDougall, and other Yukon leaders and partners.

Events like Yukon Days create the conditions for meaningful dialogue around shared priorities. We look forward to carrying those conversations forward.

Thank you to all who made the evening possible.

Health equity for First Nations and Indigenous communities demands more than good intentions — it requires the right strategy and a genuine understanding of lived experience. Tobi Mitchell brings a community-first, Indigenous lens to health policy, helping clients navigate complex systems while keeping equity, relationships, and long-term outcomes at the centre.

That's the Blackbird approach.

Most people don’t misunderstand policy. They misunderstand how decisions get made.

By the time an announcement goes public, weeks and months of work have been done behind the scenes —the process of policy making is layered, nuanced, negotiated through trusted relationships and by people who understand the pressures of it all.

That’s the part most people never see and it matters just as much as what happens after the decision is announced.

At Blackbird Strategies we not only understand policy, but we also understand how to shape it, and we are experts in the process behind it. That means not only should we be involved before a decision is made, we can help you with what comes next. Consultations, engagement, relationships, communications, and implementation are a months, sometimes years, long processes. We can support and advise you.

The earlier you bring us in, the more we can do for you.

Every headline triggers a debate. Most political debates are just people arguing the side they already support.

This week we’re cutting through on caucus management, the end of impact assessment consultations, and hate speech — setting aside the partisanship and looking at what the policy, process, and context actually tell us.

Because picking a side isn’t the same as understanding the issue.

Does it hold up? That’s the debate.
