We couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate 10 years! 🌿

Last week, the Dendron Forestry Services team, along with some amazing clients, colleagues, and community members, planted 100 new trees near Remic Rapids Park, along the Kichi Zībī Mīkan.
A huge part of making this happen was our collaboration with Forêt Capitale Forest (FCF). Dendron provided the funding and FCF did a superb job of organizing the event and bringing all the trees and gear. Thanks also to Dave from the Kichi Sibi Winter Trail who offered his UTV to shuttle supplies down to the site, which made the whole day run so smoothly.

Thank you so much to all the friends, clients, and community members who came out to help us plant. We are so grateful for your support over the last decade. These trees will play a key role in improving the quality of our drinking water by filtering and intercepting storm water before it meets the mighty river. These trees will also provide shade as well as act as windbreaks for the winter ski trails.

Today Team Adair is playing in the U20 Provincial Qualifiers in Cornwall. We are only two teams so today we will be playing a best 2 out of 3 against Team Bolton. Our first two games are at 10:00am and 2:30pm. Watch our games live on YouTube and stay tuned for updates!

A great field day collecting data on our bikes 🚲 . Each year, we review sites where we identified trees 🌳 for retention years earlier in our clients’ infill projects. It gives us the opportunity to learn what works and what doesn’t. We use this knowledge to improve the quality of our reports and provide the best, practical advice for our clients.

Halfway through teaching the urban forestry field camp to Master of Forest Conservation students at U of T. We spent the first (wet) week visiting sites within the GTA and are now on our way to Montreal and then ending the last few days in Ottawa and a sugarbush in Lanark County. It’s the best job ever and the students always impress me with their innovative and progressive ideas - the future of our urban forests is in good hands! 🌳 🌍

Dendron is growing... I'm thrilled to announce the hiring of my first employee, Kevin Myers! Kevin recently graduated from U of T's Master of Forest Conservation (MFC) program, where he focused on urban and peri-urban forestry. He is a Certified Arborist and is looking forward to working towards obtaining his Registered Professional Forester's license. Kevin completed his MFC internship in Gravenhurst, taking an inventory of their public trees, then used that data to write his thesis on increasing canopy in small towns, and to help write a management plan for the town's public trees. He was also involved in projects to set woodland management objectives for the city of Mississauga and analyzed the effects of downed woody debris on small mammal populations.
Forestry is Kevin’s second career which he decided to switch to after years of studying music and performing as a professional singer. He began to discover his love for the outdoors when he worked for the Ontario Rangers program for five years and through various gardening jobs. He is particularly enthusiastic about forest vegetation, private land stewardship, education, and being out in the woods as often as possible.

I look forward to working with Kevin on expanding our current range of urban and peri-urban forestry services!
