The Fire Danger Rating in Muskoka Lakes has been lowered to MODERATE.

What you need to know:
• Daytime burning (8 a.m. until 6 p.m.) is permitted with a valid open-air fire permit
• Small, confined fires are permitted in the evening (6 p.m. until 8 a.m. the following morning) without a permit, use caution with fires
• Stay fire smart: keep outdoor fires controlled and attended

Local conditions are being actively monitored by the Muskoka Association of Fire Chiefs and MNR. Further updates will be shared as appropriate.

Our deepest condolences are with the family, friends, and colleagues of OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali, who was tragically killed in the line of duty in Hearst.

The Muskoka Lakes Fire Department stands in solidarity with our policing partners and first responders as we mourn this tragic loss.

It is with deep sorrow that I confirm that OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali was killed in the line of duty this afternoon in Hearst. His courage and commitment to serving others will never be forgotten. As we grieve this immeasurable loss, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones, colleagues and the policing community.

Late last week, crews from Walker’s Point, Windermere, Milford Bay, and Port Carling were dispatched to reports of a structure fire on Lake Muskoka.

Upon arrival, firefighters located a fully involved boathouse fire. The homeowners were not present at the time of the incident.

Marine units from Walker’s Point and Milford Bay Fire Departments battled the blaze from the water, while crews from Port Carling and Windermere conducted suppression operations from land.

Firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading to the nearby cottage and neighbouring properties. There were no reported injuries.

Thank you to all responding firefighters for their quick action and teamwork!

🚒 Training Today for a Safer Tomorrow!
We are excited to share that training is in full swing at the Walkers Point Fire Station! This week, our recruit firefighters are undergoing intensive Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Operations level training.

Our recruits are hard at work mastering critical skills, including:
• Recognition: Identifying potential chemical, biological, or radiological threats.
• Mitigation: Implementing strategies to neutralize or contain spills and leaks.
• Diversion Tactics: Managing the flow of hazardous substances to protect our waterways and environment.
• Rescue: Executing safe, specialized extractions in contaminated zones.

💼 Professional Training, Volunteer Heart
It is important to remember that your fire service is powered by dedicated volunteers. These individuals aren't just neighbours helping neighbours; they are highly trained professionals performing specialized services. This HazMat training isn't just best practice—it is legislated and required by Ontario regulation to ensure every responder meets the highest safety standards.
