We’re happy to announce that HSR Services is officially Certificate of Recognition(COR) certified!

This achievement comes after a year of work, collaboration and commitment from across our team to strengthen our health and safety practices and successfully complete the certification process.

Safety is an important part of how we work every day. It helps protect our team, our customers and the facilities we serve, while supporting the dependable service our customers count on.

A big thank you to our entire HSR team for the time, effort and teamwork that made this possible, and to the Manufacturing Safety Alliance of BC for their guidance and support throughout the COR/OSSE certification process. This achievement would not have been possible without everyone working together.

Achieving certification is an important milestone, and our work continues. We will continue maintaining and strengthening our safety practices as we move forward!

🎊 Events can leave behind much more than general waste.

Banners, cardboard, soft plastics, Styrofoam, decorations, electronic equipment, display materials and leftover supplies may all require different next steps after guests leave.

When collection is only considered at the end of the event, teams may be left making quick decisions while materials accumulate in loading areas, storage rooms or back-of-house spaces.

♻️ Planning ahead makes it easier to identify which materials will be reused, returned, recycled or removed.
The event may be temporary, but the materials still need a clear destination.

The right collection schedule depends on how materials are generated, how quickly they accumulate and how much space is available between pickups.

🗓️ A recurring pickup may be more suitable when materials are generated consistently, storage space is limited and collection needs are relatively predictable.

📞 An on-call pickup may be more practical when material volumes change, cleanouts happen occasionally or projects are seasonal.

Some organizations benefit from a combination of both. Regularly generated materials can follow a recurring schedule, while less predictable materials can be collected when needed.

🌱 When the Space Works Better, Material Management Works Better!
A waste and recycling room may be behind the scenes, but it is still part of the property’s daily operations.

When containers are difficult to identify, material streams are placed too close together or the space no longer has enough capacity, even well-intentioned staff may find the area difficult to use correctly.

Over time, recurring issues may appear, including mixed materials, blocked access, overflowing containers and additional handling for facility teams.

📌 Sometimes, small adjustments can make a noticeable difference. Clearer labels, more practical container placement or a collection schedule that better matches the material volume may help the room function more effectively.

When access, capacity or material buildup become recurring concerns, it may be time to review whether the current setup still fits the property.

💡A commercial cleanout does not need to begin with every item perfectly sorted. However, knowing what materials are present before pickup can help create a much more organized plan!

When furniture, electronics, confidential documents, cardboard, pallets, scrap materials and special-handling items are placed into one mixed pile, materials that could be reused, recycled or managed separately may become harder to identify.

📸 Before the cleanout begins, clients can share photos or a material list with the team!

Photos can help to:
• Identify the different material streams
• Recommend how materials should be staged or separated
• Coordinate the appropriate collection services
• Provide sorting support where needed
• Address confidential documents and special-handling requirements

Common cleanout materials may include reusable furniture and equipment, electronics, confidential documents, cardboard and packaging, pallets, scrap metal and other project materials.

Planning ahead can help reduce last-minute collection challenges while creating better opportunities for reuse and recycling.

As part of our Earth Day initiatives, we brought the community together through our HSR Earth Month Recycling & Donation Drive in Port Coquitlam!

Thank you to everyone in the community who participated and helped make the event a success! Together, we collected a range of recyclable materials, including electronics, batteries, light bulbs, and scrap metal, ensuring they were handled responsibly.

As a result, HSR Services is pleased to contribute $200 to the Port Coquitlam Foundation, supporting local programs and initiatives.

We also appreciate the support from community partners who helped promote the event and extend our reach.

This initiative is a great example of how simple, accessible recycling solutions can create meaningful local impact.
