So if you want a thriving page, I guess you need to remember to post.

I’ve been busy helping clients navigate people problems, workplace investigations, policy updates, and all the things that don’t make it to my camera roll (friendly reminder to review your employment agreements and policies if you haven’t this year).

So here’s last week’s content: an after-hours networking event at Costco; complete with bulk snacks, friendly conversations, and a reminder of how grateful I am for the opportunities that have presented themselves.

Busy is a blessing. Thanks for keeping me off Facebook and in the work!

We were proud to have Beverley representing Excel Personnel at the 2026 B2B Expo in Prince George!

The event was a great opportunity to connect with local businesses, strengthen community relationships, and announce our new partnership with Rebecca Blood HR Consulting to support businesses with recruitment and HR services across Northern BC.

Do you ever get so in the zone that time ceases to exist? I worked until 1:30am last night (or I suppose this morning) completing phase one of a project for a client that holds a special place in my heart. Thankfully, I remembered to schedule send so no one else lost precious sleep, and my husband has long since learned not to wait up for me when my creative spark is kindled. I’m feeling incredibly grateful today… especially for coffee ☕️

Shoutout to the gentleman from Westcana Electric Inc. who was kind enough to pay for my Tims order this morning! What a wonderful surprise - and you best believe I paid it forward. ☺️ I’m grateful, I’m caffeinated, and I’m ready to tackle this busy day!

I’m looking forward to joining Cam Roberts on his Stripe It Like It's Hot podcast this morning and then spending the afternoon with Nation2Nation Events for Day 1 of their Annual Women’s Gathering. AND the sun is shining so it truly feels like Spring is in the air!

Wishing you all a fabulous Thursday! ✨

Tonight Joanne Spalton, CPHR joined me in guiding the CPHR BC & Yukon Generalist Peer Exchange in a meaningful discussion about Developing Leaders from the Inside Out and the importance of strengthening emotional fluency. It was an incredible session and I truly wish we had more time to connect and collaborate. Thank you so so much to everyone who joined and shared with the group and special thanks to Joanne for facilitating. I look forward to seeing my fellow HR generalists at the next one! ☺️

What a week!

Monday we had our very first CPHR BC & Yukon in Prince George and it was a great conversation - thank you to everyone who was able to attend and be part of it!

Tuesday and Wednesday was the hosted by Community Futures Fraser Fort George, Prince George Chamber of Commerce and the City of Prince George. It was an inspiring two days, especially hearing the story of Leah and Tyke Town. My littlest had an amazing experience in their care and I was so excited for others to be able to learn about Tyke Town and all the incredible work Leah and her team are doing.

Immediately following day 2 of the B2B I joined the Conference, hosted by the Northern Regional Construction Association and the British Columbia Construction Association-North. Sue Connors offered so much insight in her session on AI and the keynote from Michelle Cederberg had me laughing and really reflecting on what success means. The day wrapped with the event hosted by the NRCA and MNP and I just have to share that the MNP team are truly some of the loveliest people I’ve gotten to chat with.

Thursday was another great day of learning and connecting at the conference and I left with some goodies that definitely made for a very happy husband (thanks so much Admiral Roofing Ltd).

Overall this has been a truly wonderful week full of amazing conversations and connections. I’m stepping into this long weekend feeling grateful, inspired and beyond excited for what’s to come. ✨

A reminder I needed yesterday, and maybe you do too.

Yesterday I had my littlest home with me as she recovers from a nasty bug. It followed an incredibly challenging weekend of solo parenting while my husband works out of town. I was exhausted, overwhelmed at the thought of caring for my toddler when my own cup was empty, and guilt-ridden from having to reschedule meetings.

In the afternoon, family stepped in to help with both of my girls and gave me the time to pause, breathe, and recalibrate. I was left feeling incredibly grateful.

My little one turns two this week, and in the quiet moments I was gifted with, I couldn’t help but reflect. Two years ago, I worked until the Friday before my Tuesday delivery. I answered a work text from my hospital bed. I worked through my entire leave. I gave up precious time with my growing family because I believed work couldn’t wait. I struggled with boundaries and didn’t ask for help. One of the biggest drivers behind my journey into entrepreneurship was reclaiming what I’d lost: my life, in balance.

Yesterday, I was so fortunate that I had the flexibility to move things around. To put my family first. To make sure they were taken care of - including myself. And you know what? Everyone I had to reschedule with was nothing short of understanding.

I still struggle with stepping away from work and feel compelled to stretch myself thin to meet everyone else’s needs. But is that any way to live? And am I really performing at my best when I’m simply functioning instead of thriving?

As an HR professional, I regularly advocate for employees to have healthy boundaries and work–life balance. After all, we work to live, not live to work. And if I believe wholeheartedly that others are better for this balance, then that same grace should apply to me. And to you.

So here’s your friendly reminder: you’re allowed to put yourself and your family first. Work can wait, or someone else can step in. Don’t be afraid to take time, take space, ask for help, and communicate your needs. The right people will give you grace, show you compassion, and support you the best they can.

No one can pour from an empty cup, so please make sure you’re finding time and ways to fill your own.

Happy Groundhog Day!

If HR could predict outcomes based on shadows, my job would be much easier. Here's to everyone making decisions based on data, policy, and good old‑fashioned critical thinking - I hear that works better than folklore, but we'll let Punxsutawney Phil keep his magic. 😊
