The person will be responsible for safety and a quality install that meet expected deadlines. The Directional Drill Operator will be expected to provide detailed reports to management on status of each assignment as work is expected to be completed with minimal direct supervision. The ideal candidate must be able to work 8 – 12 hour days, 6 days per week in adverse weather and muddy conditions. Travel will be required.
Responsibilities:
Safeguard people, property, and environment by following legislation and HS&E program.
Properly secure and transport directional drill to work site and safely off-load
Follow set-up procedures and position safely with proper alignment for drilling.
Establish responsibility and care for equipment through preventative and ongoing maintenance.
Operate drill to facilitate installation of pipe/conduit for underground fibre optic drops from outside terminals to customer premises.
Ensure communication with locator that ensures quality assurance while meeting task and project deadlines.
Pull cable through conduit and ducting with the use of equipment and by hand.
Interact with home and business owners with a high emphasis on customer service.
Perform labour tasks with the use of shovel and hand tools to complete each assignment that includes site clean-up.
Ensure effective use of time, materials, fuel, and equipment.
Work under the direction of the supervisor.
Qualifications:
Class 5 driver’s license.
Firm understanding of underground locates.
Mechanically inclined.
Experience working with fibre optics is an asset.
Experience driving and operating truck and trailer.
Able to lift 50 pounds and pass a pre-employment medical/physical test.
Ability to manage a physically demanding position that involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting, and work at heights, and in confined spaces.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
