Well… this was an unexpected discovery. 😂

I'm cleaning out my home office/dog den and found a binder I put together more than 20 years ago.

Nine pages of poetry and writing.

I remember being romantic. I remember loving to write. But honestly? Reading these feels like reading something written by a stranger.

And then I got to page 10.

It wasn't a poem. It was a little essay about dating and relationships.

And I had to laugh.

Because apparently I've been thinking about human connection for a really long time.

The technology has changed. Dating has changed. The way we meet people has changed.

But the basic problem hasn't:

How do we actually connect with each other?

Somewhere along the way, that question went from something I wrote about to something I'm actually trying to do something about with OFFLINE – The Second Social.

Maybe OFFLINE didn't really start when I created the logo.

Maybe it started with a younger version of me who just liked writing about people, relationships and the complicated business of finding each other.

Funny what you find when you're cleaning out a room. ❤️

Find someone who creates peace.

Dating gets talked about so much in terms of chemistry, sparks, butterflies and excitement.

But what if one of the best things you can find is peace?

Being comfortable enough in yourself that you don't need someone to complete you.

Being secure enough to let someone into your life without losing yourself in theirs.

Being with someone who doesn't disrupt your peace—but adds to it.

There's something pretty peaceful about being alone on the water, paddling wherever you want to go, listening to nothing but the water and the trees.

But sometimes...

it's even better when you look up and realize there's someone beside you who you want to share it with. 💙

That's the kind of connection worth making space for.

Sometimes you just need to go somewhere new. 🌲

This summer brought a first for me: my first summer at Candle Lake.

And with it came some new traditions.

As our kids get older, family vacations start to look different. Boyfriends and girlfriends join the fold. New pets come along. Schedules get complicated. The things we once did because we had to become things we choose to do because we want to.

And maybe that's not a bad thing.

There's something pretty special about creating new traditions with the people you love.

This trip had a little bit of everything—gale-force winds that definitely weren't invited, more bugs than I care to remember, paddleboarding through clear northern water, beautiful sunsets at Waskesiu, and views that reminded me just how much beauty is right here in our own backyard.

Sometimes getting OFFLINE isn't about going far away.

It's about slowing down enough to actually notice where you are.

Put the phone down.
Take the road you've never taken.
Find the lake.
Watch the sunset.
Make the memory.

Go see what's waiting for you outside your usual routine. 💙

This vacation feels a little different.

Not because it's at the lake.
Not because it's summer.

Because it feels like the beginning of a new tradition.

One thing I've realized about finding love the second time around is that it's not just about finding your person. It's about sharing your world.

Your favourite places. Your family. Your traditions. The little rituals that make life feel like home.

After we've been hurt, it's easy to become protective of those things. But when you're with the right someone, sharing them doesn't feel scary—it feels natural.

It reminds me of being a kid. Remember how excited we were to show everyone our room, our toys, or the fort we built? We couldn't wait to say, "Come see!"

Maybe that's what love feels like as adults.

Not grand gestures.

Just finding someone you're excited to say, "Come see my world." ❤️

One thing I've noticed...

Dating conversations often reveal less about who's "right" and more about the lens we're looking through.

A joke one person finds harmless, another hears through years of different experiences.

The same profile, the same message, the same first date can be interpreted in completely different ways.

Maybe one of the most valuable skills in modern dating isn't finding someone who thinks exactly like we do.

Maybe it's becoming curious about why they see things differently.

Understanding doesn't always require agreement—but it almost always requires curiosity.

What do you think? Have you ever realized you and someone else were having completely different conversations about the same experience?

YES!! 😂

Apparently, some grocery stores in Finland have pink shopping baskets that let others know you're single.

Would it be a little awkward?

Maybe.

Would it make real-life conversations easier?

Also maybe.

I don't know if pink baskets are the answer...

But I do think a lot of people would welcome more ways to meet that don't rely solely on an app.

What do you think?

Would you grab the pink basket?

It's been a few weeks since I've posted here.

Not because I've stopped thinking about OFFLINE.

Quite the opposite.

I've been listening.

Reading conversations.
Talking with friends.
Watching what's happening in modern dating.
Running pilot groups.
Questioning my own assumptions.

One thing has become really clear:

OFFLINE isn't about convincing people to delete dating apps.

Apps have opened up a dating pool many of us would never have had otherwise.

The challenge isn't getting a match.

It's everything that happens after.

The uncertainty.
The overthinking.
The mixed signals.
Knowing when to meet.
Knowing when to walk away.
Remembering who you are while trying to get to know someone else.

That's the space I'm interested in.

That's the conversation I want OFFLINE to create.

Over the next few months, I'm going to share more of what I'm noticing, what I'm learning, and what people are experiencing—not because I have all the answers, but because I think we're asking better questions together.

If you've been here for a while, thank you for sticking around.

I'm excited to keep building this.

07/16/2026

😂 I laughed.

Would I wear the shirt?

Probably not.

Would I love to see more creative ways for people to meet in real life?

Absolutely.

The apps can make the introduction.

Real life is where we discover whether there's actually a connection.

Sometimes the hardest part isn't letting go of someone.

It's letting go of the future you imagined with them.

When someone consistently shows you they can't meet you where you are, believing them is an act of self-respect.
