Is your dehumidifier no longer collecting moisture?
Has the compressor stopped kicking on?
Are the buttons on the control panel becoming unresponsive?

If so, reach out and let’s see if it can be repaired before replacing it.

We’ve been seeing a lot of dehumidifiers come in lately with these exact issues, and we keep many common parts on hand to help speed up repairs.

Diagnostic and troubleshooting for dehumidifiers is a flat fee of $40. If the unit is repairable and you choose to proceed, that fee is credited toward the repair cost.

Even if the unit can’t be repaired, at least you’ll have peace of mind — and we can also take care of disposal so it’s not taking up space in your home.

If you have a dehumidifier that’s acting up, send us a message and let’s see what can be done. 🔧

Today we had a battery-powered stick vacuum brought in for a loss of suction. The customer mentioned, “It sounds like the motor is clogged!”

After taking it apart for inspection, we found the issue wasn’t actually a failed motor at all. The vacuum had recently been cleaned, but the filters were accidentally left out before it was used again. Without the filters installed, dirt and hair were pulled directly into the motor assembly, blocking the exhaust and causing the vacuum to lose suction.

Thankfully this was repairable with a full teardown and cleaning, although jobs like this can be quite time-consuming due to the amount of disassembly required.

A good reminder: always double-check that your filters are installed before turning your vacuum back on after cleaning!

If your vacuum isn’t working properly — whether it needs a deep cleaning, battery replacement, switch repair, filter replacement, or even a custom filter rebuild when parts are no longer available — feel free to reach out.

We also repair small appliances, tools, and electronics.

Don’t forget we offer free in-town pickup of unwanted electronics and small appliances, including:
• TVs
• Gaming consoles & controllers
• CD/DVD/VHS players
• Tablets
• Vacuums
• Microwaves
• Dehumidifiers & humidifiers
• Battery packs
…and more.

Today I received a call from a customer saying their Hayward pool heater had completely failed — “everything’s dead!” as they put it.

The good news? Total failures are often caused by one single problem hiding underneath it all.

After powering up the heater, it immediately displayed a “CE” communication error. Communication faults can be some of the most frustrating issues to track down, but after some troubleshooting the culprit was found: a failed component on the control board had shorted internally, allowing too much current to pass through a resistor and burn it up.

The damaged board was replaced, the heater was fully tested to make sure the issue wouldn’t repeat itself, and everything fired back up exactly as it should.

Now the customer has a working heater again — and a pool that’ll actually warm up!

Don’t give up on equipment just because it suddenly stops working. Many times, the problem is smaller — and more repairable — than it first appears.

This is a bit of a repost, due to learning new information from the customer.

After talking with the customer to let them know their clock was repaired they expressed great excitement and told me that the last person they brought it to said it wasn't worth repairing and to just go buy a new one. I found that statement surprising considering how easy the repair was on this clock.

It made me wonder just how many other people have taken on an expensive replacement because they took someone's word for something without seeking a second opinion. This isn't to shame anyone, I myself have been burned by this before too.

This clock has sentimental value for the customer and I'm happy to have been able to help in this case.

Original:

A unique one came through the shop this week — a vintage coo coo clock that had stopped working completely, even with fresh batteries installed.

After carefully opening it up and inspecting the control board, we found the issue: old battery leakage had corroded part of the circuit, breaking the connection needed for it to run.

The board was thoroughly cleaned, and a small repair was made to restore the damaged pathway — bringing this classic piece back to life and ticking once again.

Have something that’s stopped working or been sitting unused? Whether it’s appliances, electronics, tools, or something a little out of the ordinary, feel free to send us a message. We’re always happy to take a look and see what can be saved!

This week we had a Dyson CY22 Big Ball in for a cleaning and service — and it turned into a great example of why “unrepairable” isn’t always the end of the story.

The customer noticed dust blowing out of the exhaust when the vacuum was running. During our teardown and inspection, we found the issue: the internal HEPA filter had broken down. The paper media was clogged, damaged, and had holes in it — which meant dust was passing straight through and back into the air.

Normally, this would be a simple fix… but in this case, replacement filters (even aftermarket ones) are no longer available.

So instead of calling it done, we took a different approach.

The filter housing was carefully dismantled, new filtration material was sourced and cut to size, and the filter was rebuilt from the inside out before being sealed back together and tested.

And it worked. ✔️

The result:
• A fully functional vacuum again
• Hundreds of dollars saved versus replacement
• One more quality machine kept out of the landfill

Just because OEM parts are discontinued doesn’t mean your equipment is beyond saving. In many cases, components can be rebuilt, adapted, or replaced with alternative solutions — it just takes the right approach.

If you’ve got something sitting at home that you’ve written off because parts aren’t available, don’t be so quick to give up on it.

Reach out and let’s take a look — whether it’s electronics, small appliances, tools, or more. We offer both drop-off and on-site repair options, and we’re always happy to help you figure out if a repair makes sense. 🔧

Planned obsolescence. Design changes like this not only reduce the ability to repair your equipment, they also reduce our expectations for how long something should last.

We work hard for our money and we would like our machines and tools to be something we can set and forget.

Not having to keep in mind our financial planning of replacing multiple high use machines every 7 to 8 years.

**Who are we?**

You know the name — *Edwin Sweet Repair* — but who’s behind it?

When it comes to trusting someone with your tools, appliances, or electronics, it’s not always easy. These are things you’ve worked hard for, and letting someone into your home or handing over your equipment can feel uncertain. Not knowing who you’re dealing with can make that decision uncomfortable.

That’s exactly why I chose to put my name on the business.

My name is attached to every repair, every interaction, and every decision. That level of visibility comes with responsibility — and that’s the point. It keeps me accountable to you and to the community. Honesty, transparency, and respect aren’t just good business practices here — they’re personal.

This isn’t a big company. It’s just me — someone who enjoys figuring things out, solving problems, and bringing items back to life. Sometimes that means going a little deeper than expected just to understand *why* something failed. It’s not always about the repair — it’s about getting it right.

More than anything, this is about giving back.

This community has supported me, and this is my way of returning that support — by helping people save money, keep their equipment running, and avoid unnecessary waste.

We can all wait for someone else to step up… or we can choose to be that person.

If you have something that needs repair, installation, or just a second opinion — feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to help.

What started as a simple repair turned into a longer process — tracking down the correct parts, waiting on shipping, and even dealing with the wrong component being sent before finally getting the right laser installed. But in the end, it was worth it to bring this unit back to life.

With older electronics like this, it’s not just about replacing parts. Over time, things like dust buildup, aging wires, and worn connections can all affect performance. In this case, once the new laser was installed, the top touch buttons still needed attention — a careful disassembly and deep clean made all the difference.

It’s surprising how often dust and dirty contacts can make a device feel broken, when really it just needs a proper cleaning.

A lot of the repairs we see aren’t major failures — they’re the result of everyday use over time. Sticky buttons, unresponsive controls, or inconsistent performance can often be restored with the right care.

If you’ve noticed something not working quite like it used to — or needing a little extra push to get a response — it might be time for a clean or tune-up.

Feel free to reach out anytime. Whether it’s electronics, appliances, or power tools, we’re always happy to take a look and help you decide the best path forward.
