We are honoured to welcome Micaela Champagne as our Keynote Speaker for the Prairie Rivers Reconciliation Circle’s 8th Annual Educational Gathering – “Threads of Truth.”

Micaela is a proud Métis and Cree woman from Canoe Lake Cree First Nation and CEO/Co-Founder of askîhk Research Services. Her work in identifying burial sites at former Indian Residential Schools is helping uncover truth, honour the lives of missing Indigenous children, and support meaningful steps toward healing and reconciliation.

Her voice, knowledge, and leadership continue to inspire understanding, respect, and action within our communities.

Today, May 5th, is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ Relatives across Turtle Island.

Today is a day for reflection, learning, and action.
In 2023, Statistics Canada concluded that the homicide of Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA is SIX times higher than that of non-Indigenous people in Canada. Indigenous women and girls make up 2%-3% of the population, but make up between 5%-7% of reported homicide victims. They also reported that the police “were less likely to lay or recommend a charge of first-degree murder,” when compared to the rates of charges laid when the victim was a non-Indigenous individual (Government of Canada, 2023).

The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls published their final report in 2019. This report details the human and Indigenous rights violations and consists of the Truths of 2,380 Survivors, Family members, Elders, and knowledge Keepers. This monumental report identified 231 individual calls to Justice. We invite folks to read the report and advocate by using their voices, writing letters, and calling leadership at the civic, municipal, provincial, and federal levels on behalf of our relatives. Join marches, post to your social media, spread this important message of Justice.

askîhk Research Services is looking for a Casual Archaeology Technician to join our team. Our work is community-based and supports the use of non-invasive and minimally invasive technologies to investigate former Indian Residential School Sites and Cemeteries.

This role involves travel and hands-on fieldwork across Canada, and we’re looking for someone who’s ready to be part of meaningful, respectful work.

We’re looking for someone with:
• Some field experience
• First Aid and a valid driver’s license (preferred)
• At least 3 years of study in archaeology, Indigenous studies, or a related field

The position is casual, with a daily rate starting at $200/day depending on experience.
